🕛 The Midnight Wrap-Up: Week No. 5 – From High-Stakes Kingdom to Deep Human Connection

📝 The Week In Review

It’s been a very busy work week for me. So, I’ve not watched a lot of shows. The fact that I managed to finish Perfect Crown on the same weekend it completed is quite remarkable (though that also meant I put my work on the back seat). And I did add in Soul Mate. It’s been appearing on my TikTok FYP so I decided to give this one a shot. I also managed to catch Michael in the cinemas.

🤩 The Highlights

  • Perfect Crown (Ep 11-12): ⚡ – I’m really glad that they ended on a happy note. I was a little scared as IU and Byeon Woo Seok do tend to take on sad/bittersweet shows. I did a review on this one so you can read more here.
  • Chef & My Fridge (Ep 11): ☁️ – After a hell-ish work week for me in the office, working from home and watching this show during lunch is refreshing, especially when I need a laugh.
  • Soul Mate (Ep 1): ☕ – I’m not yet sure of this show but I’m intrigued.
  • Michael: 🫸🏽 – New emoji: It’s the wait till it’s on Netflix for me. Read my review here.

💖 The Midnight Mood

  • 😋: I’m back to my dieting. It is especially motivating since I had a couple of scares in the last 2 years and my doctor told me in the recent check-up that the cysts found in my breast last year got smaller. I was encouraged. Whatever it is I’m doing, I’m maintaining it.
  • 🎶: I’ve been playing this song about non-stop – Unique by P1Harmony

👀 Looking Ahead

I hope I finish Soul Mate. Let’s see…

📺 TV Review: Perfect Crown (2026)

🔢 Seasons/Episodes Covered

Season 1, Episode 1-12

Quick Spark

Seong Huiju is a successful businesswoman, leading one of the country’s top company, Castle Beauty. Despite her intelligence and her business acumen, she still feels something lacking – status. Being an illegitimate daughter of her father, Seong Hyeon-Guk, she feels casted aside and less favoured than her brother, Seong Taeju. When her father wanted her to marry, she decides to reach out to an old schoolmate, none other than Grand Prince I-An. Grand Prince I-An, on the other hand, is destined for nothing except his royal status. But he, too, is constantly casted aside with his brother and now the Young King, his nephew, being more favoured. When Huiju comes back into his life with a marriage proposal, the two begin to fight against everyone and their own destiny.

🪝 The Hook

Everything. I seriously have nothing bad to say about this show – the cinematography, the production value, the costumes, the cast, the acting, the music, the story, even the previews. See, I’m not bad of a guesser when it comes to TV shows or movies – I can usually guess what would happen next. But this show just threw me off the curve. When I thought it would going one way, it caught me off-guard with something unexpected. I couldn’t even guess what would happen next from the previews and gave up after being wrong from the second episode.

🧪 Character Chemistry

The chemistry was off the charts between IU and Byeon Woo Seok that it got some people teasing in social media about her relationship with her boyfriend, Lee Jong Suk – all the memes (They are still going strong, guys!) That’s how good this pairing is. And not just them – even the second pairing of Yoo Su Bin and Lee Yeon who played as their respective aides got the audience smitten. And along with these pairings are also sparks that seemingly flew between Byeon Woo Seok and Gong Seung Yeon, who played the Queen Mother. In reality, these two are actually really close friends.

🚶🏽‍➡️ Pacing Check

I have no problems with the 12 episodes. I like how things wrapped up really well and quickly with the main couple, Huiju and I-An. Their communication skills is so good real life couples need to learn a thing or two from this show. They ensure that they talked to each other so that there’s little to no misunderstanding between them and nothing and no one can put a barrier between the two of them due to secrets unless they put it there themselves. And this is why it’s 12 episodes – no secrecy, no unexpected drama, things wrap up quickly. If I want this show to be longer than 12 episodes, it’s all for selfish reasons because I’m going to miss this show so much.

💤 Final Sleepy Rating

⚡ Electric – If this show does not win an award next year, I will be very surprised. Unless there’s another drama of this level that comes out this year. Although I heard that there is and it’s starring… IU’s boyfriend, Lee Jong Suk. It’ll be interesting if it can win the hearts of the viewers the same way Perfect Crown did.

🧐 Status

Completed 😭

✍🏽 Notable Mention

Byeon Woo Seok sang one of the show’s soundtrack – Fate Line. He sure used everything he learned from his role in Lovely Runner 😂

🌙 The After-Hours Reset: Week No. 4 – Crowns, Kitchens, and Moral Codes

📝 The Week In Review

Chef & My Fridge and Honour are back on the list! My comfort show and the show that I’ve put on the back-burner. You see, after watching the latest episodes of Perfect Crown, I definitely need my comfort show. That show is giving me a high blood pressure. I love it but the villains be villain-ing here! And the poor baby king being used and bullied by adults! The nerve. So, yes, I need Chef & My Fridge to calm my blood pressure down.

🤩 The Highlights

  • Perfect Crown (Ep 9-10): ⚡ – We have two more episodes and I don’t know how it’s going to end. That’s the thing with this show that I think made people hooked – you can never guess how the next episode will go even with the previews. While I can guess, it still managed to surprise me.
  • Chef & My Fridge (Ep 10-11): ☁️ – After the latest two episodes of Perfect Crown, I need something to comfort me. Ep 11 has Chef Sang Rok back. Aww…
  • Honour (Ep 3-4): ⚡ – Well, I’m not surprised that the side character that I don’t really like is not there anymore but it’s still quite tragic.
  • Sammy’s Children’s Day (Ep 7-8): 🦋 – I’m about to finish and I want smack Liu Yi awake. Sweetie pie, you like Chu San. Just admit it already!

💖 The Midnight Mood

  • 😋: Okay, since my work went a little crazy, I did eat some food beyond the time that I set myself at for my diet era. Just normal dinner, like the fish curry my mom cooked for today – on a Mother’s Day, yes. That’s mom’s love, y’all.
  • 🎶: Someone just help a girl out here. I’m stuck at Wednesday Girl by P1Harmony for a whole week now. My goodness! So stuck that I have added P1Harmony as one of the groups I stan now. Great! For a change, I’m embedding a YouTube video of them singing the song live because that’s when I laughed at myself and went: Ha! Another boy group in my list!

👀 Looking Ahead

I said I will finish Sammy’s Children’s Day, right? Ha! That didn’t happen. Should I promise finishing the show this week? Probably not. That’s dangerous 😂

📃 The Great Reset: Week No. 4 – The Crown, The Feels, and The One

Show / Movie / BookProgressCurrent Vibe
Perfect CrownEp 8/12⚡ Electric
Sammy’s Children’s DayEp 7/9🦋 Heart-Fluttering
Feel What You FeelEp 1/8🦋 Heart-Fluttering
Wanna One Go: Back To BaseEp 2/6☁️ Cozy / Daydreaming

This week, my list is interesting – from usual K-drama to Chinese BL dramas to… K-pop variety show. Honestly, it’s good for my brain. Otherwise, with my busy work-life, I would get all my dramas mixed up.

🔊 Weekly Highlight: What a mix

With work being busy, I am amazed that I could slip in 2 shows which is Feel What You Feel and Wanna One Go: Back To Base. Now, Wanna One variety show would be easier for me to consume after a hard day at work. Bunch of cuties being a bunch of cuties together? Easy-peasy! It’s easy to watch as well because they are just a bunch of comedians so I was laughing a lot except for the latest episode, to which I was bawling. These boys deserve to be a permanent group.

💖 The Midnight Mood

  • 🎧 Soundtrack: This song has been looping in my head and it’s going to creep up into the top 10 of my Spotify 2026. I’ve been repeating it non-stop. It’s Wednesday Girl by P1Harmony. Where did they come from? Well, I can thank Gemini AI for recommending this song 😂
  • 😋 Snack: Nothing. My diet is working. I shall continue with it.
  • 🛏️ Sleep Thief: It’s either Sammy’s Children’s Day or Feel What You Feel. Either one of them I was watching at night.

📋 Drop / Keep / Add

  • 💯 Keep: All the shows, for now, including Honour.
  • 🫳🏽 Drop: Jun & Jun – I couldn’t finish it. The office-related stuff can be quite cringey. It’s unlike Secret Relationship, which is a little bit more believable.
  • Add: You know, every time I say something here, I won’t watch it and I watch some others so I don’t want to say anything anymore 😆

🌙 The After-Hours Reset: Week No. 3 – A Marathon of Crowns, Fridges and Enemies

📝 The Week In Review

Perfect Crown reminds me why I usually waited until a show completes before binge-watching. Because the waiting is excruciating. Good thing is: There’s always something to look out for after a hell of a week at work. This week, because of a hell-ish work week, I decided to watch one of my comfort shows – Chef & My Fridge. I also added two other BL shows because why not.

🤩 The Highlights

  • Perfect Crown (Ep 7-8): ⚡ – Can someone just give our royal couple a break? They don’t get one day of peace (or maybe they do) without something happening and they have to manage it together. Anyways, now that the second half of the drama starts, the drama ups the ante and us viewers are waiting what Grand Prince I-An has on his cards. That man is very smart and these two episodes also show how dangerous he can be.
  • Chef & My Fridge (Ep 8-10): ☁️ – Still my comfort show. Watched it whenever I feel the lousiest and this week was definitely it.
  • Never Forget Your Enemy (Ep 1-8): 🔥 – I decided to go with this rather than 🦋. It’s more 🔥 than 🦋 but there are some sweet moments. I did watch all 8 episodes and yet to write a review because the next show in this highlights is distracting me.
  • Sammy’s Children’s Day (Ep 1-6): 🦋 – It’s been a while since I watched a Chinese BL show. Chusan is a cutie patootie who is also quite nerdy hot. While Liu Yi is such a clueless person. Will this man ever realize he’s actually in love with Chusan or not?

💖 The Midnight Mood

  • 😋: I’m still in my diet era. But because I was so stressed out, I was almost always eating past the time I’m supposed to stop eating. So, I was eating breads, which is favourite carbs of all carbs and drinking hot chocolate because sweet stuff makes me feel better after a shitty day at work.
  • 🎶: Let’s go with one of the songs from Perfect CrownMy Favourite Part by So Soo Bin.

👀 Looking Ahead

I think I will finish Sammy’s Children’s Day as it just ended. I definitely need to start Yumi’s Cells Season 3 at some point. And I saw some clips of Absolute Value of Romance that looks interesting.

🌙 The After-Hours Reset: Week No. 2 – Crowns, Closures and Honours

📝 The Week In Review

Wow! I really have to applaud myself that I am really following Perfect Crown as the show is ongoing. That was not very me. I can’t remember the last K-drama that I’ve done this. But I really kept up with the show. Yes, it means I did finish the latest episode 6. That episode was breath-taking, to say the least. I felt bad for my soft toys for getting whacked because the owner was giggling so hard. I wonder what is in store in the second half of the show though. I also just finished Love for Love’s Sake. Yes, I should also applaud myself for finally taking the plunge and just cried and the heart was mended back watching the last episode. Silly sweet boys! I also continued with Honour. It’s an interesting show – girl-bosses but with trauma.

🤩 The Highlights

  • Perfect Crown (Ep 5-6): ⚡ – K-dramas are truly back with this show. I’ve read comments from viewers who did not watch K-dramas for years until this very show. Depending on how the second half of the show plays out, this drama could very much win Best Drama.
  • Love For Love’s Sake (Ep 7-8): 🦋 – Yes, I finally finished this and I did not regret watching this at all. They are so cute. I wrote a review of it here.
  • Honour (Ep 2-3): ⚡ – I am intrigued by this show. Power moves by the 3 main ladies and kudos to them doing what they do. But one of the side characters is starting to piss me off and made me want to fast-forward her story but her case is the beginning of everything that will unfold later, I’m sure. Ugh!

💖 The Midnight Mood

  • 😋: Still in my diet era! The last food I ate was my dinner cooked by my mom. So mommy’s food, guys!
  • 🎶: Since yesterday, I was creating a Spotify playlist for my normal workday with NCT Dream songs after some hiatus because yours truly couldn’t listen to their songs without bawling after the latest news of Mark leaving the entire group of NCT. Finally, I got the courage of listening to their songs again and decided to create a K-pop playlist of sort with mostly their songs. But I won’t be putting NCT Dream song here. It would be Killing Me by IKON, which is in the playlist.

👀 Looking Ahead

I think I need to start Yumi’s Cells Season 3 or Absolute Value of Romance or Love Upon A Time. Or all three. I don’t know anymore!
