Silenced: A True Story of Horror and Justice in South Korea

Movie poster for Silenced

On a lovely Sunday, I decided to scroll through Netflix to see what movie I can watch for the day. I chanced upon this movie that was tagged as “Leaving Soon”. As a true crime addict, I did heard of it before from Rotten Mango, hosted by Stephanie Soo. You can watch the episode below on YouTube on the real case of Inhwa Boarding School.

Or if you can’t stomach watching it, you can also listen to the podcast episode below on Spotify.

While the movie was based on a novel called The Crucible written by Gong Ji Young, it was inspired by the above horrific true story.

Before you go any further, a little warning that there’s mentions of child abuse.

The Perfect Couple: Unraveling Secrets in a Picture-Perfect Setting | TV Series

I’m going to be honest: It’s been a while since I’ve watched an English-language drama that it felt like my brain had to constantly remind myself that this is not a K-drama, why am I surprised that I can understand the language that the characters are speaking without having to read the subtitles.

Anyways…

This is No. 1 in the Top 10 TV shows on Netflix in Singapore currently so why not give it a watch. Watch, I did, in one day, which is a feat considering it can take me days usually to finish a TV show.

Lockdown Special Review: When The Weather is Fine (TV Series)

This has to be a feat for me. I have got to achieve my own life medal of finishing a drama in 2 days and 1 night. How did I manage to watch this drama in an even shorter number of days than Itaewon Class?

HOW DID SITI FINISH THIS IN THE SHORTEST TIME POSSIBLE?

Lockdown Special Review: Itaewon Class (TV Series)

I’m surprised with myself that I can finish this TV series after Cells at Work in 8 days. It seems that the circuit breaker really gives me too much time on my hands. Usually, a TV series would take me weeks to complete. But here I am…

I decided to watch it due to a recommendation by not one but two colleagues of mine. And that there are a lot of references of the TV series elsewhere. So, I thought maybe it is a worth a watch. Is it?

Is it worth it?

Lockdown Special Review: Cells at Work (TV Anime)

So… a special write-up of sorts. Singapore is on a “circuit breaker” mode, essentially a lockdown but not really… We are still allowed to go out of the house but only for essential things like buying takeaway food or groceries. Only companies in essential industries are open such as healthcare, food & beverage (thus takeaway food, no dining in), repair works, supermarkets, wet markets. Mostly, we are still advised to stay home.

Anywaysssss….

Because Singapore is on a circuit breaker mode, it means that I have too much time on my hands, which translates to me being able to write like this and actually watch shows that I’ve always wanted to watch but had no time.

First up is Cells at Work, a TV anime that I’ve always wanted to watch but was not able to catch up on. I was pretty excited to see that it is on Netflix.

What’s On Stage: Grease

ImageI caught Grease, the musical, playing here in Singapore a few days ago and if you do not know what Grease is all about, where have you been?

Anyway, Grease is made popular by the movie of the same name starring John Travolta as Danny Zuko and Olivia Newton-John as Sandy. However, it was actually a Broadway show before it turned into a movie and I have to say that I prefer the movie than the stage version.

What’s On Stage: The Addams Family Musical

ImageThe Addams Family musical came to our shores and of course, being a musical fan that I am, I took the opportunity to watch it last night with three of my friends before it ends its run tonight.

Let me first just begin by saying that the experience of watching a musical/stage play includes the venue where the musical/stage play is held and Resorts World Sentosa’s Festive Grand Theatre is actually pretty nice. For a fifth row seat, the price is way lower than that of a fifth row seat at the Marina Bay Sands’ MasterCard Theatre. There was also no one patrolling up and down the steps of the theatre before the show telling the patrons not to take photos of each other and/or the stage unlike that of the other theatre mentioned, which can get really annoying. Audience of a musical/stage play usually pretty much know how to behave in this setting so “babysitting” the patrons can really get on their nerves. There is a difference between giving great service and babysitting us. So, the experience in the venue was a good one for me as it was my first time there.
