TV Series Review: Once Upon A Time Season 2

It’s been a while since I actually write something here. Oh you know, most shows have their season finales already, Game of Thrones is on a one-week hiatus, and all that jazz. But Teen Wolf is coming back so yay!

However, I’ve been doing my own catching up on some shows that I love to watch because I’ve been spending too much energy on Glee, Game of Thrones and Spartacus. And the first show that I caught up on is Season 2 of Once Upon A Time.

Image

So, you know, the show started with the whole magic coming back into Storybrooke and our beloved fairy tale characters knowing that they are actually fairy tale characters. When Season 1 ended, I asked myself how they are going to work it all out.

In general, I guess it was okay with the introduction of new characters like Mulan, Aurora, Prince Philip and Captain Hook. I think they should cast Li Shang or have Mulan be an independent, I-need-no-man heroine instead of crushing on Prince Philip who is obviously in love with Aurora.

The acting was a little awkward here and there and the story could get really slow, which could make the audience frustrated. And the whole Tamara and the other guy irritates me a little. They reminded me of Westboro Baptist Church.

I think the novelty of the whole twist in the fairy tale stories has gone, which might have caused the drop in the viewership for the show. With the season ending in the “evil” characters like Regina and Rumpelstiltskin along with the “good guys” going into Neverland and the twist of Henry being the boy wanted by The Shadow, I don’t know what else they could do to keep the viewers watching. The finale was a little substandard. I wasn’t going: “Oh boy, I can’t wait for the next season now!” I was more like: “Please don’t make Peter Pan the bad guy because my childhood!”

But if you’re a fan, you should know by now that the show has been renewed for the third season. So, will I actually review the episodes each week when the season starts? We’ll see how I can juggle.

TV Episode Review: Game of Thrones – Second Sons

Image

Late review is late but I just finished watching the latest episode of Game of Thrones. I don’t know where to start because my brain is stuck on the last scene. The White Walker always scares the heebiejeebies out of me. I’m guessing I’m going to have nightmares from it.

Other than that, the episode is as exciting and progressing further and further, which is great. The wedding of Sansa and Tyrion is awkward. I’m not looking forward to Cersei and Loras’s wedding and he’s visibly upset over it, understandably. I’m not really sure about the whole Gendry and Mellisandre scene because I fast-forwarded past it. I don’t read the books but I heard that that wasn’t in the book at all. Weird take for the TV writers’ part, if that is so. The burning of the leeches that sucked on Gendry’s blood was confusing. I have no idea what’s that supposed to do. Daenerys is still my powerful queen. Now that she has the Second Sons for her cause, she’s going to be harder and harder to beat but that’s not always a good thing, right? With the White Walkers still around. I’m pretty sure seeing the White Walker at the end of this episode means something.

I think the fourth episode is still one of their best at the moment but this episode would be second because for me, how it ends makes a world of a difference. The ending either makes you bite your fingernails eagerly waiting for the next episode or it will just leave you feeling indifferent. This episode is the first one for me. I’m not so sure leaving that dragonglass dagger in that snow is the best of idea because I’m pretty darn sure there are more White Walkers around. Eeks!

TV Episode Review: Glee – All Or Nothing

Yes, you see it right. It’s a review and not a recap because I am so annoyed that I could not even re-watch it without fast-forwarding certain parts of the episode so that I do not inevitably destroy my laptop due to my frustration over what I just watched.

This is the worst finale I have ever watched on Glee or any other shows ever in my entire existence of watching TV shows. I was bored the entire time watching the whole episode. I understand that Heather Morris has left Glee because she’s focusing on her pregnancy (Her baby bump was very obvious in the episode) and as such, they wanted to wrap up her storyline. But I do not get the catfish storyline. Who did not guess it was Unique all along? Who? It was one of the most unsuspenseful plotline, if not the most unsuspenseful plotline.

Music From Glee Episode Review: All Or Nothing

This is it, guys! This is the last music review for Glee episode from me. Well, last for this season. Yes, we have almost reached to the end of the season and the finale is called “All Or Nothing”. It’s a Regionals’ episode. Yes, the seniors have yet to graduate and yes, they will only graduate next year aka next season. It doesn’t make sense? It’s okay. It’s Glee.

So, here are the music for the finale:

Love It Or Hate It: David Cook – Laying Me Low

A couple of days ago, David Cook released his new single called “Laying Me Low”. Have a listen below:

It’s a different sound from what I used to listen from David Cook. This was a little bit pop-ish than what I used to listen from him, in my opinion. This has a Maroon 5-ish and Matchbox 20 kind of sound. It surprises me to hear it coming from David. If I didn’t know that this was David Cook, I would have thought it was from Matchbox 20. No matter, I do enjoy it a lot and hope it does well on the charts. I’ve not heard a lot from David. He was really popular after he won American Idol and then it sort of fades away.

Anyway, if you like the song as much as I did, the single is available on iTunes and Amazon so please do purchase it from these two outlets. He will also be performing the song live on American Idol on 2 May 2013.

Love it or hate it? Love it!

Music From Glee Episode Review: Wonder-ful

This week, there will be seven songs, all from Stevie Wonder (Wonder-ful, get it, get it?). What’s the plot? No idea except that Kurt Hummel, Mercedes Jones and Mike Chang are back at McKinley High. For what? No idea. Well, I know that Mercedes Jones is back to coach New Directions on singing and Mike on dancing but I don’t know why Kurt is there. For fashion? Whatever it was, I’m here to review the music because if the plot sucks, at least we have the music. And if you don’t love Stevie Wonder, get out of here!

TV Review: The Final 1 – Season Premiere

Image

To the uninitiated, The Final 1 is a local reality singing competition created by Ken Lim, Singapore’s very own Simon Cowell, as we like to call him due to his harsh criticism on the Singapore Idol contestants in the years past. In this competition, some lucky individuals (a whole lot of them) will be groomed, styled and trained to be a star. They would have to impress the three judges – Kit Chan, our homegrown talent who is best known for her role in The Forbidden City, Taufik Batisah, the first Singapore Idol winner, and Ken Lim himself. The winner will walk away with $100,000 worth of prize which includes $50,000 cash and $50,000 recording contract.

Earlier, I watched the first episode of the show and I must say that it has a great crop of talent. They all can sing and sing well. Basically, there were 1000 entries and out of those entries, the three judges picked 60 people. These contestants sang in front of the judges on stage and hoped they would go through to the Top 40.

Although the contestants are really talented, as a TV viewer, I would want to see the whole package. I am so used to American Idol, The Voice and Singapore Idol itself where there is a host and this host will be the one doing the voiceover and also act as a supporter for the contestants. There is no host here. Yet. And it makes it bland. Whoever who did the voiceover sounded amateurish. I don’t “feel” what she’s saying. It just takes away the whole enjoyment of the show. It is good that it is all about the contestants and not the judges or the host but if there is no entertainment to speak of, it makes a TV show bland because it is a TV show in the first place. A host like Gurmit Singh would be nice. He is a pro in hosting and funny to boot. Or Najip Ali, etc. it would make the show more lively.

For now, I am sort of “meh” about this local talent show. Let’s see what happens next week then.

Music From Glee Episode Review: Lights Out

Well, this is later than I usually post it. You see, I spend the entire night last night changing the theme of this blog of mine and added an “About Me” page to talk about… well… me. If you dig this theme, please feel free to let me know so I can preen under the compliments. If you don’t dig it, keep it to yourself. Haha! I’m kidding!

Anyway, so the next episode of Glee will have six songs. Will there be a plot? I’m going to guess that it’s gonna be one of those silly episodes since Nightbird will be appearing (Nightbird!). I’m not even sure what “Lights Out” even mean. McKinley has a blackout? Oh well, we will find out soon enough.

Onward with the songs since I care about that than the episode itself… other than Kurt and Blaine of course.

Music From Glee Episode Review: Sweet Dreams

My Game of Thrones Episode Recap will be delayed and instead, I will give you my review of the songs from the next episode of Glee first.

The next episode of Glee will be called “Sweet Dreams” and to be honest, since I have shunned from general Glee spoilers except for spoilers of two characters that I actually care about, I have no idea what the plotline for the next episode will be except Marley has written songs and this episode will have Marley’s “original song”. And I guess it is brought over by Marley’s video confession in the last episode that there are songs that she had written and kept in a drawer.

Anyway, enough of that, let’s hear the music! First up…

Love it or Hate it: Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack” Music Video

Demi Lovato just today released her music video for her hit song “Heart Attack”.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vntrYFXVko

Let me first just say that I love the song. The first time it was on the radio, I knew it’s going to be a hit. So I was excited that there’s finally a music video to accompany the song.
