Movie Review: Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

403-film-page-large

I know it’s been out for a week or so now in Singapore but I just watched it earlier today, only because 1) I was not in the mood to watch any movie last week due to haze and the general elections; and 2) there is no movie out this week that I would want to watch so might as well.

I have to say that the Maze Runner trilogy is looking to be one of those movie adaptations that is way better than the books itself. The books (or book since I only read the first book) did not interest me at all, most likely because the words used threw me off plenty of times during my reading and it really spoiled my enjoyment. Honestly, if you want to use the word “fuck” or “shit”, just use them and do not create words that made it really childish. Let’s face it, it is not a children’s book or will it ever be. So, the author should have just gone along with using the words.

Anyway, we are not here to talk about the book but about how awesome the movie is (I just spoiled what my review would ended up to be).

Movie Review: Inside Out

inside-out-poster

Before I get to the actual movie, can I just talk about the short animated movie that was aired before Inside Out called Lava? Of all the shorts that they made, I think this is one of those less interesting ones, for me personally, because it was so cheesy. I appreciate cheesiness because if you have ever looked past my blog entries and onto the sidebar filled with my latest tweets, I can be SUPER cheesy. But this cheesiness, I can’t appreciate. I could only face-palm and wrap a shawl over myself to cover my eyes during the entire movie. It might have affect my mood for the actual movie…

Movie Review: Fantastic 4

fantastic-four-2015-poster-doctor-doomI’ve not written a movie review for quite a while, haven’t I? Well, I’m getting my groove back on now. Be warned.

Anyway, earlier today, yours truly managed to catch the newest superhero movie, Fantastic 4, a reboot from the box-office failure that was the film series in 2005. This time, with a whole new cast of young talented Hollywood actors. Did this movie save the one Marvel Comic Universe franchise that doesn’t seem to catch a break?

Well…

Movie Review: Avengers: Age of Ultron

10869325_591589580977275_2778898650041679518_oFor my American readers, this would seem as a whole lot of surprise that I have watched Avengers: Age of Ultron. But it is released in Singapore and other parts of Asia first before the Western countries. It might be a good strategy as Asia probably has a higher rate of piracy so releasing it here first lower that chance of such a big budget movie being pirated. Anyway, so yes, I have watched Avengers and it has all the things you expect the movie to have – action, comedy (as all Marvel movies tend to have) and a little bit of drama.

Movie Review: The Last Five Years

1.171988My closest of friends and family members would know that I love musicals. If I could sing through my entire life, I probably would but it would sound like Les Miserables“I dreamed a dream in time gone byyyyyyyy…” – so I don’t bother.

But as much as I love musicals, I had no clue about The Last Five Years. Zilch. Na-da. It could be a good thing because I would then have absolutely zero expectation on the movie since I did not even know the existence of the stage version. With that said, I sort of expected a musical version of One Day. It’s not exactly like One Day though.

Movie Review: Fast & Furious 7

Furious-7-Movie-PosterEarlier, I went to watch the latest installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. I would like to admit that I was not a big fan of the franchise at first. I love racing – a big fan of Formula 1 and MotoGP even though I neither drive a car nor ride a motorbike. But Fast & Furious was never my cup of tea. I’m not sure exactly why but I came to love the later installments. I am particularly fond of Elena, who is quite a badass.

Like any other action-packed movies with racing as the central plot, it has beautiful fast cars and sexy, bikini-clad ladies. But what Fast & Furious has that the other similar movies do not is heart, which could be due to the fact that the casts know each other long enough that they indeed became a family so when one member is gone, you could sense the sincerity in their goodbyes. And Fast & Furious 7 is indeed a 2-hour long goodbye to Paul Walker, who died 2 years ago in an accident.

Movie Review: Into The Woods

disneys-into-the-woods-new-poster-with-creepy-meryl-streepI have to confess that, even as a musical fan, I have not heard of Into The Woods. GASP! Does that make me a bad fan? Anyway, I came into the theatre with absolutely no expectation on how well the movie adaptation is. All I know is it has an ensemble of well-known actors and I expect each and everyone of them to be able to sing since it’s a damn musical.

I must say that I’m truly impressed.

Movie Review: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

UntitledAlso known as the movie with the longest title ever by Disney.

Alexander is one of the movies that came out this week in Singapore. I decided to give this one a go because 1) the trailer looks nice and 2) I need a laugh. And it’s not a bad choice.
