Movie Review: The Dressmaker

281544

None of the movies out this week was in my list of movies to watch this year. However, I was out with friends and thought might as well we catch a movie together as we had never done so before. A pal chose The Dressmaker from the list of movies to watch this week and I have to be honest, the tagline “Revenge is back in fashion” does pique my interest a little. Also, Kate Winslet. So, on we went to watch the movie and I was pleasantly surprised.

Movie Review: Spotlight

20104185723_0ca6c3e963_o

I would like to introduce to you to the first movie of 2016 that has rendered me speechless. And I’m pretty sure I wasn’t alone as no one left their seats when the lights went back on and the credits were rolling up. No one. That movie is Spotlight.

Let me be honest for a moment here. I was interested to watch the movie but was not particularly impressed about the trailer as I was when reading the summary of the movie. But I gave it a chance as I was not interested to watch any other movies that were out this week. (I’m not fond of financial movies so The Big Short is out. I hate horror movies so The Tag-Along is never going to be in the list. I’m not interested in a bunch of cowboys in The Hateful Eight stranded in the snow either.) And boy, am I ever so glad that I decided to watch Spotlight.

Movie Review: Room

room-2015

This week, there were three movies that intrigued me based on their trailers – The 5th Wave, Franny and Room. But alas, I had no time to watch all three movies and chose only one. And I made the best decision in my life by choosing Room, which starred the now Golden Globe winner, Brie Larson.

From its trailer, the plotline may seem similar to a real incident that happened a few years back to four girls who were trapped in a room in the US. But no, this movie is actually an adaptation of a best-selling novel by Emma Donoghue.

Movie Review: Joy

7p0iv5fe

Happy New Year to all those who still follow my blog after a long while of not posting anything at all. Hope all of you had a great start to 2016!

This new year, the first movie yours truly decided to watch is Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence. Since the first month of the year is always what I would call the Oscar month, I’m pretty sure this will be nominated for an Oscar for some acting awards and/or Best Picture though the latter is quite unlikely as there are probably better contenders out there.

Anyway, first review of the year…

Movie Review: Commitment

commitment_poster

Oh ho! Look at that! My very first Asian movie review! Yippee yai yo, let me go wipe my tears away first! *sobs*

I am a procrastinator, if you must know. I’ve been wanting to watch all the movies that T.O.P starred in but I just did not find the time to sit down, search for his movies and watch it. But today, I decided that my procrastination must stop and looked at the list of movies. After reading the synopsis, I took a chance on Commitment first, mostly because I am quite intrigued by the whole North-South Korea conflict.

And now, here I am, typing my thoughts down, snots and all.

Movie Review: Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

403-film-page-large

I know it’s been out for a week or so now in Singapore but I just watched it earlier today, only because 1) I was not in the mood to watch any movie last week due to haze and the general elections; and 2) there is no movie out this week that I would want to watch so might as well.

I have to say that the Maze Runner trilogy is looking to be one of those movie adaptations that is way better than the books itself. The books (or book since I only read the first book) did not interest me at all, most likely because the words used threw me off plenty of times during my reading and it really spoiled my enjoyment. Honestly, if you want to use the word “fuck” or “shit”, just use them and do not create words that made it really childish. Let’s face it, it is not a children’s book or will it ever be. So, the author should have just gone along with using the words.

Anyway, we are not here to talk about the book but about how awesome the movie is (I just spoiled what my review would ended up to be).

Movie Review: Inside Out

inside-out-poster

Before I get to the actual movie, can I just talk about the short animated movie that was aired before Inside Out called Lava? Of all the shorts that they made, I think this is one of those less interesting ones, for me personally, because it was so cheesy. I appreciate cheesiness because if you have ever looked past my blog entries and onto the sidebar filled with my latest tweets, I can be SUPER cheesy. But this cheesiness, I can’t appreciate. I could only face-palm and wrap a shawl over myself to cover my eyes during the entire movie. It might have affect my mood for the actual movie…

Love It or Hate It: Deadpool Teaser Trailer

19003270193_2edb397100_oHow did I just come across the Deadpool teaser trailer? How? Like where was I? What was I doing? (Okay, I know what I was doing – I was fangirling over BIGBANG.)

Anyway, oh yes my comic geeks, all our dreams have come true and we will finally get to see Marvel’s most unconventional superhero, Deadpool, on the big screen and oh boy, what a teaser trailer.

Movie Review: Fantastic 4

fantastic-four-2015-poster-doctor-doomI’ve not written a movie review for quite a while, haven’t I? Well, I’m getting my groove back on now. Be warned.

Anyway, earlier today, yours truly managed to catch the newest superhero movie, Fantastic 4, a reboot from the box-office failure that was the film series in 2005. This time, with a whole new cast of young talented Hollywood actors. Did this movie save the one Marvel Comic Universe franchise that doesn’t seem to catch a break?

Well…
