Movie Review: The Conjuring

ImageSurprise! Siti does a review on a horror movie, which she gave a warning about weeks earlier. Yes, everyone, it’s The Conjuring. But this review is going to be slightly different only because I didn’t watch the whole movie. I just came upon it when I was doing my rounds of Eid visits. Yes, I’m a Muslim and we’re currently celebrating the break of fasting month. So, briefly, here in Singapore, we will visit our relatives’ houses, eat, gossip a lot and then seek forgiveness. Anyway, so one of my relatives was playing the movie and we ended up watching it. But we left halfway through the movie or so. But I decided to still write a review of sorts about it since, well, I did watch it and got a gist of it from what I have watched through the gaps between my fingers.

TV Review: Teen Wolf – The Girl Who Knew Too Much

ImageI had to breathe in and out for 5 minutes before posting my review for the latest episode of Teen Wolf. Right after I was done watching the episode, I literally curled up on the floor, clutching my Captain American plushie and slamming my fist on the floor, screaming: “Why, Jeff Davis, why?”

Review under the cut because of pain…

What’s On Stage: The Addams Family Musical

ImageThe Addams Family musical came to our shores and of course, being a musical fan that I am, I took the opportunity to watch it last night with three of my friends before it ends its run tonight.

Let me first just begin by saying that the experience of watching a musical/stage play includes the venue where the musical/stage play is held and Resorts World Sentosa’s Festive Grand Theatre is actually pretty nice. For a fifth row seat, the price is way lower than that of a fifth row seat at the Marina Bay Sands’ MasterCard Theatre. There was also no one patrolling up and down the steps of the theatre before the show telling the patrons not to take photos of each other and/or the stage unlike that of the other theatre mentioned, which can get really annoying. Audience of a musical/stage play usually pretty much know how to behave in this setting so “babysitting” the patrons can really get on their nerves. There is a difference between giving great service and babysitting us. So, the experience in the venue was a good one for me as it was my first time there.

Movie Review: The Wolverine

ImageI’m having a huge headache right now after getting less than 4 hours of sleep. (I shall put the blame on a 49k-word fanfiction that I read.) But I decided that I shall write a review of The Wolverine that I watched earlier before I forget what the entire movie was all about, which would be possible due to its stale plot.

There are now two Wolverine movies that I could think of so what makes this one different from the other Wolverine movie? This movie centered around Logan being a recluse and struggling to conquer his own nightmares after what happened to Jean Grey in the last X-Men movie. When I said the last X-Men movie, I don’t mean X-Men: First Class. I meant, X-Men: The Last Stand.

I have nothing much to say because I don’t find the plot that interesting. It just gave us a look at how much guilt Logan felt after the death of Jean Grey and how, with the help of other people, he came to terms with it and conquered it. But I do have to comment on the badass character that is Yukio. This is one of the things I love about the X-Men universe: They have female characters that can kick your masochistic asses into the next universe. Yukio is one of those characters.  If I ever do cosplay, I will dress up as her. I’ve always wanted to be a ninja.

But the scene after the end credits was what makes watching this movie worth it. I suggest you don’t leave the theatre after the end credits roll. That would be a huge mistake. To avoid spoilers for those people who have not watched, I shall put the rest of this post under the cut.

Music To Your Ears: Jake Bugg – Broken

Today’s Music To Your Ears might make you cry. Please do run and grab that Kleenex box before you click on the video below:

The song is called “Broken” by an English singer-songwriter, Jake Bugg. And boy, my heart is broken after listening and simultaneously, reading the words to the song. You know, they say that the sadder the song, the more beautiful it is? Yes, this song is so good it hurts.

Music To Your Ears: Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know?

This is something “new” that I will be posting (possibly) daily for. Music To Your Ears is where I’ll post a song, new or old, may or may not be playing regularly on the radio airplay and tell you why I love it.

I love music a lot. I generally post a lot of movies and TV shows in this blog and most would assume I’m a movie lover and that is not completely wrong but I’m a music and book lover before I do of movies. I cannot live without music but I can live without movies.

The first post for Music To Your Ears goes to Arctic Monkeys’ “Do I Wanna Know?”

Do I wanna know? Yes, I do. I want to know when this song will stop looping in my head!

I heard this song a week or so ago via BBC Radio 1 and I just fell in love with it. The guitar chords is simple and repetitive, which gives this sexy, James Bond-ish vibe to it. It’s not hard or complicated. I have a feeling a number of talented people out there might be running to their guitars and start playing the song.

Anyway, you would think this song with such a melody would be about sex or something but no, it’s actually a lovely song. My take on the song is two friends who may hooked up once and this person felt more than where their relationship is currently at. It’s somewhat like an unrequited love song, isn’t it? The question is literally in the song: “Do I wanna know if the feeling floats both ways?”

Really, with that melody, I didn’t expect the song to be about that, or at least that’s how I took it. It took me by a real good surprise.

If you haven’t heard the song, press play on the YouTube video. You won’t regret it.

Love It Or Hate It: Comic Con 2013 – The Avengers: Age of Ultron

“Hey, wait a minute! I just saw your other post a couple of hours ago today and there’s another one?”

Yes, your friendly neighbourhood blogger is doing a blog vomit. (What’s “blog vomit”? I have no idea. I just created it.)

Comic Con is the place where two juggernauts try to one-up each other and these two are DC and Marvel. I have blogged about DC’s announcement of the sequel to Man of Steel where Superman is going to go head-to-head with Batman. Is Marvel going to be left behind? No, of course not. Marvel announced that the sequel to one of the biggest superhero movies of all time, The Avengers, is going to be called… The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Wait, what?

ImageIf you read the comic books (I don’t), you will probably know that Age of Ultron is the latest comic book series by Marvel just released this year and I heard that the last issue was released a month back. So, how is this movie gonna go?

Well, Joss Whedon, the director of The Avengers, spilled during Marvel Live that they are going to stray away from the comic book. So, for those of you who read the comic book and know what happened to your favourite superheroes (clue for those who don’t read: Not good things and these not good things is just one thing: Meeting with The Reaper aka death), you can breathe easy – that’s not gonna happen in the sequel to The Avengers. He mentioned that they are doing their own version the origin of Ultron.

Now, because I’m your friendly neighbourhood blogger, even though I don’t read the comics, I did some research. In the comic books, Ultron was created by Ant Man to help mankind but Ultron realizes that the threat to men is men themselves and vouched to eliminate the species.

The sequel will not have Ant Man. Joss Whedon will use what he already has with The Avengers and make his own story there. During Comic Con 2013, Marvel released a very sneak peek of The Avengers: Age of Ultron where Iron Man’s mask melted and formed back into the mask of Ultron, to the excitement of those who saw that first-hand. That is already a clue-in to what I will expect to see in the sequel – Ultron will not be created by Ant Man but Mr. Tony Stark. And if I’m right (I’m sure I am), why do they torture Stark again? The guilt this man will feel. He was almost destroyed in the first Avengers and now this? Pepper will have some work cut out for her.

And for those who wonder the characters that will appear in this sequel, obviously all of them, with the exception of Agent Coulson (maybe) and Loki, since there’s a new villain in town. Joss Whedon did confess that he has some hell of a work cut out for him right now. He has to bring together our favourite superheroes and tie them all into this sequel and then add in Hawkeye, Black Widow and Nick Fury among many others as well. We also need to remember that he does have the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D to do on top of this sequel.

Ouch! I do not want to be in Joss Whedon’s shoe right now.

Love it or hate it? I have high hopes that this sequel will be top!

Edit: For those of you who wonder about what happened to Thanos, the villain that we were introduced to in the last The Avengers movie, and how that will all tie in with the sequel, well, he will not be in this sequel. He will appear in another Marvel superhero movie called Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians of the Galaxy is made possible because of that three-second shot of Thanos.
