I’m backkkkkkkk! And why does it feel like everytime I’m back, WordPress decides to change its blogging layout that makes me just feel… odd?

Anyway, what a good movie to come back to writing reviews to… Spiderman: Homecoming. Geddit? Anywho… I had doubts about this movie before it even started shooting because just how many adaptations of the famed webby superhero does anyone need? But after watching the movie, I take it back. I’m sorry, Tom Holland, for doubting you *insert sad-face emoji*

On to my review…

The movie started off with that time New York City was attacked by the aliens and there were some recovery efforts being done by Michael Keaton’s character, Adrian Toomes, and his crew. That is, until some very important-looking people decided to take over, not before he resisted of course (and one of his crew members stealing a dangerous-looking alien thingymajiggy). Adrian then found out that the one behind the instruction was none other than our beloved Tony Stark aka Iron Man. One of his crew members then revealed that they stole more than just that one small dangerous-looking alien relic but a whole truckload of it and Adrian, having had enough of rich people taking advantage of the less fortunate ones, decided to change along with the times. Fast-forward 8 years later, we were shown our funny and sassy Spiderman as part of the Avengers in the Civil War, which he filmed all the way through. Then, Peter Parker, bored out of his mind due to the lack of “missions”, went along being the friendly neighbourhood superhero, helping people with directions, arresting petty thieves. And then came the big break for him when a group of thieves used an advanced weaponry to rob a bank. We all then found out, along with Peter, that it all led back to one man – Adrian.

As I said before, I was doubtful about this version of Spiderman because yet again, it’s the white lead male. I know that there is a black American Spiderman in the comic world so the initial negative comments were reasonable. But Tom Holland did well as the new Peter Parker here, so well Rotten Tomatoes gave it 94% rating. That’s pretty high. It’s just 6% short of being perfect.

What I like about this version of Spiderman is Tom nailed the nervous awkward teenager so well. He’s a superhero but behind that red and blue tight suit Peter had on, he’s still a 15-year-old teenager who is scared of heights and have teenage crushes, issues and peer pressure and the crippling anxiety that he might just die doing all these things he did. But he did it anyway. Because that’s what superheroes do.

Another thing I like about the movie is that Sony and Disney Marvel decided to get their act together and work alongside each other to ensure that they could bring Spiderman as part of the Avengers, which just made this movie 100 times more interesting because… Iron Man and Captain America, need I say more? It’s really cool to see the opening credits of the movie with the faces of all the avengers from Disney Marvel. It makes my Marvel-loving fangirl heart squeal in delight.

On top of all of that, it is funny, full of teenage high-school drama without being so overwhelmingly cringy, with kick-ass soundtrack and a blast of the past song in the opening from The Ramones (Blitzkrieg Pop), and of course, a hilarious appearance of Stan Lee. It’s everything that you would expect from a Marvel movie but it probably made everyone sit up and gave such high ratings to the movie because no one expects Tom Holland to be this good, let’s face it.

So, if you have not caught the movie yet, suit up and watch it with your family or friends or alone or whatever. Just watch it in the theatres. It’s worth the bucks.

I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5 – 0.5 short of perfect because no movie is perfect 😉
