This week, there were three movies that intrigued me based on their trailers – The 5th Wave, Franny and Room. But alas, I had no time to watch all three movies and chose only one. And I made the best decision in my life by choosing Room, which starred the now Golden Globe winner, Brie Larson.
From its trailer, the plotline may seem similar to a real incident that happened a few years back to four girls who were trapped in a room in the US. But no, this movie is actually an adaptation of a best-selling novel by Emma Donoghue.
Room tells the story of a 5-year-old boy trapped in a garden shed with his mom, who had been there for seven years. To protect him, Joy made him believe that the room they were in was the whole world. Things began to happen and Joy decided to escape, using Jack to gain that freedom. But will they be able to handle the world outside the room that held them captive for years?
As I said earlier, I have made the best decision by choosing this movie. It’s one emotional roller-coaster ride and the audience are pulled along with the feelings of fear, sadness, frustration, happiness, and most of all, hope. You can’t help but to cower in fear with them, cry with them, smile with them and pray for them.
I have not read the book so I have no idea how true to the book the movie was but what I do know is that it was a great casting all throughout. Brie Larson as Joy was perfect as a young woman trying to hold it all together for her son. Jacob Tremblay as Jack was so good it breaks your heart. He’s 10 years of age and he’s already so good that you questioned what you did at 10 years old. The supporting cast of Joan Allen, William H. Macy, Sean Bridgers and Tom McCamus made the whole movie well worth to watch.
There’s nothing else for me to say without spoiling the entire plot for you with the exception that if you are thinking of watching a movie, this would be it. Don’t think. Just watch this. It made you feel good. It made you go out of that theatre filled with happiness and hope.
I give this movie 5 out of 5.
