The first instalment was one of my favourite non-Disney animated movie so I was pretty excited to watch Hotel Transylvania 2 and I was not disappointed at all. It definitely helped me to forget how cold the theatre was.
And why does the little kid remind me of Jack-Jack from The Incredibles?
Anyway…
The not-so-scary monster pack from Hotel Transylvania is back with the second instalment. After finding out that humans were not horrible creatures, Drac allowed human guests into his hotel and along with that getting used to a number of human-related things like cellphones, selfies and Facebook, all thanks to his human son-in-law, Jonathan. Yes, Mavis and Jonathan are now married. When Drac found out that Mavis was expecting a child, he was expecting a little dracula but Dennis seemed like a fairly normal kid who did not show any signs of being a monster. Mavis, worried that Dennis would not fit in the monster world, planned to move to Jonathan’s hometown in California. Panicking, Drac concocted a plan with Jonathan, who did not want to move away himself, to make Mavis and Dennis stay. Jonathan brought Mavis to his parents’s house while Drac played babysitter to Dennis and went through every single hilarious way to let the “monster” in Dennis out. But is Dennis really just a normal kid?
This is one of the best non-Disney animated movie and what made it so funny is how much “human-related” stuff was put into the monster world – from the selfies to Facebook-ing to the songs that the monsters enjoyed dancing to. From start to finish, no one actually stopped laughing. We can easily find things in the movie that we can relate to.
Another thing I love about animated movies in general is the message behind all those funny dialogues and silly antics of the animated characters. Hotel Transylvania 2 is no different. The adults always think they know what is best for a child but what they tend to forget most of the time is a child has his/her own aspirations and dreams of who he/she wants to be and who he/she is. It would be good to listen to what the child has to say rather than pushing it away as a childish thought.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this, which is worth my bucks. I would give this movie a 4 out of 5 and end my review with this…
Suffer, suffer, scream in pain…
Blood is spilling from your brain…
(This gif is used because G-Dragon looked like he was evil laughing… mwahaha!)
