Game of Thrones is back with vengeance! But sadly, Lady Stoneheart is not going to get hers (unless of course, the writers surprise us and go: “Ah-ha! Gotcha!” somewhere in the middle but probably it’s just wishful thinking.)
The first episode started where the last season left us:
- Tyrion escaped to Pentos and seemingly wanting to drink himself to death over the guilt of killing his lover and dad. (Personally, I think Tywin deserved to die. So did the lover.) But Varys somewhat convinced him to help get Daenerys to the Iron Throne.
- Daenerys, who had a brilliant time last season, was starting to experience quite an opposite of that with a certain mysterious someone killing her Unsullied soldiers and her dragons had gone through puberty and rebelling against her. Mama Dragon is going to have a tough time.
- Cersei and Jaime, meanwhile, were mourning the death of their father while Cersei remembered her past when she met a witch and found that the future that was predicted before was coming true.
- Sansa had gone goth and stayed by Little Fingers side while he brought her to a land where the Lannisters would not touch here. Apparently.
- All the while passing by Brienne who was depressed at having lost Arya and literally told Podrick to leave her alone as he tried to convince her to continue with Jaime’s mission for her to find the Stark girls. Well, I guess she lost Sansa too.
- At the very snowy Wall, Jon Snow was summoned by King Stannis Baratheon to convince Mance Ryder to serve him and have his soldiers fight Roose Bolton in the North. However, Mance being the proud idiot that he was refused and was ordered to burn to death. While he looked really frightened and was struggling under the heat of the fire, Jon shot him with an arrow before the fire could get him, thus releasing him from the torture.
With that ending, I feel that the wildlings might feel somewhat indebted to Jon for sort of “saving” Mance from the fiery and torture-y death? That ending certainly makes me wonder what will happen in the next episode if the next episode even has Jon. Why did I say that? Well, this episode missed Arya, for one, and the consequences of the death of Oberyn Martell. So, I think the next episode might touch on these two.
Anyway, I love the premiere episode. It started with a bang, especially in terms of Daenerys. I love her character but I also love that they are showing her flaws. She’s a queen but she’s not a leader (yet) and I do agree with Varys that she needs the help of someone smart and cunning like Tyrion to help.
And here’s the trailer for the next episode…
(Author’s note: I told you… didn’t I tell you? Ah, Siti’s good. I’m good *pats on back*)
