(The fourth dude looks like T.O.P from Big Bang honestly 0_0)
Remember my post on January 8th about K-Pop and how I never came across a K-Pop song until “Gangnam Style”? I take it back.
While I was doing my music playlist, I heard Wonder Girls’ “Nobody” and I thought that was the first K-Pop song I heard since it was super popular even for non-K-Pop fans. But “Nobody” reminded me that I have heard a song from possibly Korea that was really old but it’s not this song since “Nobody” was released in 2009. The song that I heard that was possibly K-Pop was in fact from a male band and I remember specifically that I heard it when I was in secondary school (equivalent to high school in America) which was more than a decade ago. So, it really bothered me to no end what that song was.
I went to Google to find out that one of the oldest K-Pop bands is Shinhwa and decided to find their old hit songs. Voila! I clicked on the YouTube video and was instantly pulled back to 2002 when I was a little bit plumpier with horrible glasses and such a drama queen. It’s “Perfect Man” by Shinhwa. Holy crap! Talk about flashback!
Look at how old the video is! Look at it! Omo!
Listening to it after more than a decade, I realized why I loved this song – it sounds like ‘N Sync’s songs of old – “Tearin’ Up My Heart” for one. This type of music was my jam when I was in secondary school. Oh my heart!
So, I guess I did know a K-Pop song way before “Gangnam Style” but what got me into K-Pop eventually was Big Bang.
