I can’t believe I’m actually enjoying this season. It’s like the writers are pushing all the right buttons for Season 6 and I’m enjoying each episode including all the ridiculousness in each of them. I feel like I’m dreaming.
The Hurt Locker Part 2 continues from last week’s episode where we saw Sue trying to put Kurt and Blaine back together and organizing invitationals to sabotage New Directions who had only 4 members.
This week’s episode started with Sue changing the rules of the invitationals in a plan to make New Directions lose even after Vocal Adrenaline had performed their songs and reminded the McKinley team that they had only 4 members. In a bid to recruit more members, Rachel begged Kitty to join the club again. After much thought and convincing, she eventually did. I actually do like her when she was with Artie and I continued to like her here. She showed her emotional side while at the same time, not losing that bitchiness, which I personally felt was more funny than Santana. Sorry, Santana, I love you but I kind of like this Kitty.
Sam, who was hypnotized to break Rachel’s heart and suggest really horrible songs to her, woke up from his state and told Rachel the very truth that he had no idea what had happened to him. To make amends, Sam convinced Spencer, the “modern-day” gay football player to continue following the footsteps of the late Finn Hudson. I love this scene because 1) Spencer is cute; and 2) although he seems fine and dandy on the outside, he’s afraid that whatever he did would be “too gay” and would alienate his teammates and friends. It’s really nice to see Sam talking it out with Spencer, no matter how short the scene was. Spencer is a good guy and has his heart in the right place, which I can see from the previous episodes which he had with Sue, and I’m glad the writers did not make him out-of-character.
Kurt and Blaine, in the meantime, was stuck in a fake elevator that Sue had built. How did they even fall for that, I don’t know, but they did and it was pretty hilarious. Sue had a mini-Sue-thing that scared the living hell out of me (that shit’s scary, yo,) cycling out of a hole and threatened Kurt and Blaine to possible death if they did not… wait for it… kissed. Yeah, you read that right. Sue wanted them to make out. I don’t know who is scarier – Klaine fans or Sue. Probably both. Or just Sue. Or both fanatic Klainers AND Sue. Look, I love Klaine and even though the eventual kiss that they did was really sweet and full of revelations, which is the special thing that both Chris and Darren have whenever they are in a scene together – they did not have to say much and just did what they did to convey a whole lot to the audience, I won’t go so far as really desperate to see them kiss or want them back together. I still want them to work things out and if being friends would solve it, then so be it. One of my favourite scenes of the two of them were when they were not together and had to work out the obvious attraction they had for each other. And I guess Sue had that same idea when we eventually found out that her plan was to make them be friends again before the actual plan of getting them back together again. Cunning Sue is cunning.
And finally, we saw the new New Directions together singing their invitational songs and pushed all the emotional triggers of Sue due to Kitty who managed to find out the password of Sue’s computer and retrieve Sue’s favourite songs. We did not get to see Jane, the African American girl, singing the songs but we got to see the others sing, including Spencer, who had a really good voice. All of the songs were slow songs so they did not move around a lot but they were all really good and I enjoyed them all. Also, I have a new ship – Spencer and Mason. I think they would look good together.
All in all, I enjoyed the episode a lot and I’m glad that the writers finally get their shit together for the final season. At least Glee can go out with a bang.
The promo for the next episode…
