TV Episode Review: Glee Season 6 Episode 3 – Jagged Little Tapestry

As I’m writing this, I have come to realize that if you watch an episode of Glee with absolutely zero expectation, you will actually enjoy it. Or maybe the writing is better this season. For now. I was pretty surprised how good this episode is.

Glee

In this episode, Kurt and Rachel are struggling to work together to guide and train the New Directions for Regionals due to the different in opinions and way of teaching. Kurt, who was still not over his breakup with Blaine, was more brutal in his comments while Rachel opted for a softer approach. Meanwhile, Brittany and Santana got engaged, in which Kurt was not particularly supportive for. He then got the receiving end of Santana’s rant. We also saw Becky’s new boyfriend, whom she lied to about being in Glee club and Coach Beiste, who had been taking personal days off and admitted to going through a transitioning period of being a man.

I really do not like Kurt so far this season. He has been my favourite character in this show but so far, I am not liking his character at all. He was the one who wanted the breakup and Blaine seemed to be moving on just fine. I just really want him to admit his stupidity, get over the breakup, learn from his mistakes and move on. I know it sounded crazy coming from someone who loved Kurt and Blaine together but at this point, I just want the best for him and if the best is moving on from Blaine, then that should be the way to go. I am not sure what lies ahead for Kurt and Blaine but if the end result is marriage, I actually would not like that at all.

Brittany and Santana were just adorable together. Although I do agree with Kurt that engagement at such a young age is probably not the best idea – look at Finn and Rachel, and Kurt and Blaine – but I think Brittany and Santana would be slightly wiser. I don’t think they would get married now but they would probably have a long engagement. I’m not sure if I’m right because I’ve not been reading spoilers but similarly with Kurt and Blaine, if at the end of the season they got married, I will be super disappointed with the writing, which has been fine so far.

I am actually pleasantly surprised with Sue. She’s not been my favourite character at all but she’s really awesome this episode – surprisingly understanding about Becky and Coach Beiste – and at the same time, still being funny. She really surprised me. The last seasons for Sue (as well as the first two episode of this season) had been cartoon-ish evil and I was not really liking it. I love the way they write her character for this episode and I hope it continues.

I am also surprised by Becky’s new boyfriend. As always, one would think that he was taking advantage of her but actually, he did not. He really genuinely liked her and treated her like any “normal” person and that was so beautiful to watch. He’s also cute, kind and caring – basically the perfect kind of boyfriend.

Lastly, I love the sensitivity in the writing about Coach Beiste. I do not know how transgenders feel like but they made it simple for me to understand what transgenders go through. There is so much thought and heart put into the storyline and I’m really thankful for that.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode and I will continue not to have expectations so I can enjoy the show more.

The promo for the next episode…

(Author’s note: Spoke too soon. I should not have watched the promo. I’m not liking it at all.)

Siti is just simply a Singaporean girl who has nothing better to do than watch movies and TV shows, listen to music and read books because, let's face it, what else can she, a non-adventurer girl, do in her spare time in this small island? This blog is for her to post her more "professional" reviews of movies, TV shows, books and music and as such, this blog is not spoiler-free so be warned. She may tend to get a little fangirly but fangirling is part of her life that she would not like to get rid of. When she is not sitting on her bottom doing this, you can find her going to work as a project manager in an online research panel company. However, that is the more boring (if that is even remotely possible) side of her life that she does not want to ever share.
