Love It Or Hate It: Sia – Elastic Heart Music Video

More than 26 million views in 3 days – that’s a lot of views and in my honest of opinion, worth it.

Many might not know but Elastic Heart, Sia’s new single, was actually a part of the soundtrack of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. So, for me, the lyrics to the song represent Katniss.

However, the song can be interpreted in many different ways and not just as the song for the girl on fire. And the same can be said of the official music video.

Elastic Heart

Some called it paedophilic and controversial while some called it art. I’m in the second group.

Never once did I watch the video (twice, by the way) that I found it paedophilic in any way. I personally interpret it as an abusive relationship between a father and a daughter but the daughter always came out stronger in her fight against the abuse. When she finally was able to get out of it, looking back, she realized that she still loved and cared for the father, came to accept it and then had to let go of it. For me, it’s a story of the fight, struggle, acceptance and letting go.

But of course, I believe that such a beautiful and artistic music video can be interpreted differently to different people. That’s the beautiful thing about art.

It was also good to see Shia LaBeouf in this video. It actually helps in my interpretation due to the raw emotions he gave in the dance. It was utterly stunning to watch.

You might need to watch the video more than once though. I suggest listening to the words of the song carefully while watching it.

Love it or hate it? Siti certainly loves it.

Siti is just simply a Singaporean girl who has nothing better to do than watch movies and TV shows, listen to music and read books because, let's face it, what else can she, a non-adventurer girl, do in her spare time in this small island? This blog is for her to post her more "professional" reviews of movies, TV shows, books and music and as such, this blog is not spoiler-free so be warned. She may tend to get a little fangirly but fangirling is part of her life that she would not like to get rid of. When she is not sitting on her bottom doing this, you can find her going to work as a project manager in an online research panel company. However, that is the more boring (if that is even remotely possible) side of her life that she does not want to ever share.
