The Honey Queen by Cathy Kelly
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
It’s very rare for me to pick up a “chick lit” book but I always make an exception when it comes to Cathy Kelly. Whenever she comes up with a new one, I would buy it without any further thought because I know I will enjoy it no matter. This book is no exception.
Similar to all her other books, it’s set in a place called Redstone in Ireland where behind the beautiful surroundings, the residents held secrets. Of course, this book is centered around one person who would be like a guardian angel to the other characters who had the pasts haunting them or just issues that some women do face in reality.
I give this book 3 stars instead because I do find that there are certain moments that are pretty “naggy” and draggy. There are also characters that I just want to reach in and slap them but I guess that’s what the author wants me to feel – like I’m reading about a bunch of 5-year-olds instead of adults. But really, none of us in reality ever acts like an adult when faced with a situation. If you have a problem, most of us would want to run away and hide behind mommy and daddy. Admit it. So, that’s why I like it. I do relate to some of the characters even though I’m not married nor am I a sixty-year-old woman (not all the characters are sixty years old, I’m just citing an example). If the author makes it less draggy, I would give it more stars.
