The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared
The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Initially, I casted doubts over how good this book is. But one day, I decided to pick the book up and read the first few pages seeing that the cover of the book looks interesting enough (long, quirky title). After reading the first few pages, I felt that there was more than meets the eye for this book and so I bought it. I don’t regret that decision now.

“The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared” is basically what the story is about – Allan Karlsson, 100 years old, decided he had enough of the Old People’s Home and climbed out of his window and into an unlikely adventure. In between the present events, the past of Allan unfolded and we found that a 100-year-old Allan and his past weren’t much different – his simple-mindedness led him to become the key role in historical events.

One of the things I love about this book is how the flow of the story equates the personality of the character. He looked at things in the most simplistic way and it just boggled my mind how he went through the entire 20th century, looking at and doing things so positively and simply. That was the factor that make us laugh. It didn’t make me laugh but it made me smile a lot throughout.

Would I recommend it? I would expect some people might not like it because it might be too out-of-this-world for some because of the historical events and you would need to know that whatever happened in this book didn’t actually happen in real life. But it’s an interesting book nonetheless and we should all wish that we live as fulfilled a life as Allan Karlsson did.

Siti is just simply a Singaporean girl who has nothing better to do than watch movies and TV shows, listen to music and read books because, let's face it, what else can she, a non-adventurer girl, do in her spare time in this small island? This blog is for her to post her more "professional" reviews of movies, TV shows, books and music and as such, this blog is not spoiler-free so be warned. She may tend to get a little fangirly but fangirling is part of her life that she would not like to get rid of. When she is not sitting on her bottom doing this, you can find her going to work as a project manager in an online research panel company. However, that is the more boring (if that is even remotely possible) side of her life that she does not want to ever share.
