And the Mountains Echoed
And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am still tearing up after reading this book but yet here I am, writing a review.

What can I say other than Khaled Hoseeini is a master storyteller? He grabbed your attention from the start and didn’t stop till the end. And if you think you can avoid not crying after reading this book (or any of his books, in fact), you are wrong.

Similar to “The Kite Runner” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns”, “And The Mountains Echoed” is set in Afghanistan and I guess, I can understand why – Khaled Hosseini was born in Afghanistan and this would be familiar to him. This time, it is about a young boy, Abdullah, and his sister, Pari, whose love was so pure and true but unfortunate circumstances separated them. The story crossed different countries – from Afghanistan to San Francisco to Paris to Greece – and different individuals whose stories were interwoven between the two main characters.

What I like about this book is, even though each chapter was set in different times – at one point, you could be reading about a character in 1952 and then another chapter would be set in 2010 – and of different characters, it was still not confusing and these stories didn’t disrupt the entire flow at all. What it did, as a matter of fact, is made us more clear of each character – not just the main characters – and how all these characters are involved in the lives of Abdullah and Pari. It made the story more whole.

I totally recommend this book to everyone but prepare for your heart to be torn apart and you would need that Kleenex.

Siti is just simply a Singaporean girl who has nothing better to do than watch movies and TV shows, listen to music and read books because, let's face it, what else can she, a non-adventurer girl, do in her spare time in this small island? This blog is for her to post her more "professional" reviews of movies, TV shows, books and music and as such, this blog is not spoiler-free so be warned. She may tend to get a little fangirly but fangirling is part of her life that she would not like to get rid of. When she is not sitting on her bottom doing this, you can find her going to work as a project manager in an online research panel company. However, that is the more boring (if that is even remotely possible) side of her life that she does not want to ever share.
