After watching Dallas Buyers Club, I watched I, Frankenstein. If Dallas Buyers Club got me raving about it, I, Frankenstein just made me go: “What the hell did I just watch?” No pun intended whatsoever. If you watched it already, you would know what I mean. But if you haven’t, there’s something to do with hell thus the pun thing there.
Anyway, the movie is about Frankenstein (duh!) who worked with Gargoyles (by the way, Team Good) to kill the demons (obviously, Team Evil and must die). Second by the way, Team Evil is scary looking when not human. I will now have nightmares. Team Evil led by Naberius, played by Bill Nighy, wanted to build an army of Frankenstein possessed by demons to defeat Gargoyles led by Leonore, played by Miranda Otto who was best known for her role as Eowyn in The Lord of the Rings. So, he enlisted Terra, a scientist to help with this but Terra didn’t know that she’s helping the devil.
Let me be honest here: I expected a lot from this movie because the trailer was so epic. If you should not judge a book by its cover, you should also not judge a movie by its trailer because this movie doesn’t live up to the epicness that the trailer was. It was such a letdown. I was waiting for an epic battle between the good and evil but I didn’t get that. I would tell you what I got instead but I would spoil the entire movie.
Positive: The graphics were good. I love the designs of the buildings and the contrast between good and evil.
Negative: Lacklustre and slipshod writing. It felt so rushed and the ending was so unsatisfying. I still want my epic battle! I felt so cheated.
I do have to say one thing though – When some of the Gargoyles die, I was sad. But that’s because they are good despite the fact that they look scary.
Anyway, if you have not watched it and are thinking of watching it, I would suggest you do not waste the money on this movie and instead buy a popcorn, sit at home and watch HBO. Or if you’d like, watch Dallas Buyers Club.
