It’s time we said goodbye to one of the characters and the actors of the show, Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) and Glee did a brilliant job in honoring the character and the actor. It was beautifully and respectfully written, which made it easy for the cast, crew and the fans to say goodbye to a friend, a brother, a person you grew up watching for four years and an idol to many.
I don’t know how to write this review because all I did was cry from beginning till end. From the moment the former Glee clubbers came out on stage to join in the singing of “Seasons of Love”, tears just ran down my face and it didn’t stop. This is the cast and crew’s way to help us all deal with the sudden death of an actor who did nothing but be the best person he could be by bringing happiness and joy to others around him.
This episode also showed us the many different ways to grief for the loss of a loved one and none of it is wrong. Some people dealt with it in pure sadness, some in denial, some in anger. No way is the wrong way to grief because different people dealt with situations differently, whichever way suits them.
Ryan Murphy said that most of the takes in the episode were first takes and it shows – the emotions were raw and honest. When the Hudson-Hummel family got together to donate Finn’s stuff away and they hugged and cried together, it really felt, to me, like they lost a family member. When Rachel Berry sang “To Make You Feel My Love”, you could really see that she’s heartbroken. She has lost her person, as she said. And you know, Lea Michele called Cory Monteith her person. We just knew that it’s not just Rachel telling that to Mr. Schue, it’s Lea Michele saying it too. When Santana cried and screamed while singing “If I Die Young”, it’s just her way to deal with the loss of a friend.
What killed me the most was when Mr. Schue came back home with Finn’s jacket and cried. He honestly cried and you can feel it. Just thinking about it now made me teared up. It was so heartbreaking to hear that sob from him. It was like he lost his best friend, his son.
There was nothing else for me to say except it was a powerful and beautiful episode. It was a great tribute for Cory Monteith and Finn Hudson.
Goodbye, Cory. Goodbye, Finn. We’ll miss you.
