TV Review: Glee – Tina In The Sky With Diamonds

ImageAfter the pretty awesome last episode of Glee, the show continues with its Beatles theme with a special guest appearance by Demi Lovato.

Of course, this episode begins with the fact that Kurt and Blaine are now engaged (I’m not over it and I don’t think the Klainers are ever going to be over it) and it was mentioned throughout the episode with Sam wondering who will take whose last name, Rachel telling Kurt he’s now engaged and Santana commenting that he’s getting married. What I love about this whole thing was Kurt’s reply that his true happiness does not depend on the engagement/marriage. And that just shows his character and maturity in taking this all in at such a young age. And that also made it seem for me that Kurt and Blaine truly are the most sensible young couple in Glee to be engaged/married and I am not even opposed to that idea because both knew that this is not their only dream. It’s their dream together but they do have their own dreams to achieve and they are going to go for it. Again, I shall stress this and hope that the Glee writers read this (but probably not going to happen) – Please let Blaine graduate.

Talking about graduation, it was a junior-senior prom night this episode and Tina was nominated for Prom Queen (hurrah!) and then went batshit crazy (not so hurrah!). Now, I don’t dislike Tina but I am starting to dislike her and this went on since late last season. I don’t know if I like what the writers are doing with the character. She completely rejected Sam’s offer as her date even though she agreed last episode and decided now to go with the single ladies. And then she made a slave out of the other Asian girl (I don’t know her name) and was being really demanding. No one deserved to be humiliated in front of the whole school with a pail of something red being thrown at her but I feel that it should be a wake-up call for her to not an ass. I know she wants to be popular but this obsession of hers is starting to get on my nerves. It was so different from Tina of old and I hope I’ll see that Tina again. I just don’t like this Tina at all.

But let’s give a hand to Kitty. The character development for her is wonderful to see. She’s like the female Noah Puckerman. She didn’t campaign for her own prom queen nomination and actually backed Tina’s campaign even though the Cheerios tried to sabotage that for her. And when Tina was all soaked with something red (I still have no idea what that is) reminiscing of Carrie, she gave to Tina her own prom dress while she wore a plain pair of pants and t-shirt back into the prom. Quite contrary to Tina, I’m starting to like Kitty. And I don’t think I would.

Back in New York, Rachel was starting to think that she would not get the role of Fanny Bryce and was pretty jealous when she found out that Santana had a gig advertising yeast. (By the way, it was hilarious!) But to make the story short, after Kurt and Santana cheered her up and got her to be her ambitious self again, she finally received the good news – she got the role of Fanny Bryce. Hurrah! But did anyone even doubt it? I don’t. It’s not because she probably deserves it, no. But because this is Glee and she’s one of the leads in this show and her character is supposed to define going for what you want and not backing out and keep trying and finally achieving that dream. That’s her character role. And also, because she’s Lea Michele. But that’s not the point.

Other than getting the advertising gig, Santana landed herself a girlfriend and that girlfriend is played by none other than Demi Lovato. Demi was a Disney star and so I had no doubts of her capability to act. I think this is her first role after quite a while and acting as a lesbian and it’s wonderful to see that there’s no awkwardness at all in her acting. Sometimes, you could see it with other people but with her, you can’t. Her character was flirting with Santana like woah and it was great to see Santana finally getting wooed rather than the other way around. Seeing Santana flustered when she’s always in control was wonderful to see. Dani, Demi’s character, and Santana are really cute together and I hope to see Demi more throughout the season. I hope she’s not going to be like other guest stars of the show where they left after one season. I kind of want to see a long-term one for Dani. I do like her character. She was funny at a scene in this episode.

Another thing I love about this episode is the development of the New York gang. Santana might not like much of Rachel and Kurt but the three of them somehow or other worked their differences and stayed together and now had made a pact to stay in New York for 2 years whether or not they succeed or fail in the pursuit of their dreams. Again, great to see this development.

With the exception of a few things that I just find ridiculous as always, it does not overshadow the fact that this is another pretty awesome episode. Will this continue for the rest of the season? I don’t know. But what I do know, as of now, is that the next episode is going to hurt so please get your Kleenex ready and by that, I meant lots of boxes of Kleenex.

Promo for next episode…
