Oh spoiler picture. But you know, if you come into my blog, it’s never going to be spoiler free. Spoiler, spoiler, spoiler everywhere! So, yes, everyone, Glee is back with its Season 5 premiere yesterday. I’m going to be honest, I watched the episode yesterday (somewhat because I skipped through a lot of the scenes to just watch the Kurt and Blaine ones) but I was so tired to do the review for this. So, this is a very late review of this new episode of Glee.
For the first episode, Glee paid homage to The Beatles and centred around three storylines – first being Rachel Berry, the other being Kitty and Artie and the last being our favourite couple, Kurt and Blaine.
Now, let me just admit that I don’t really pay attention to the other characters that are not named Kurt and Blaine but Kitty and Artie are pretty cute together. And it is really nice to see Kitty being less of a bitch around Artie and to see that she really does like him and would pretty much risk her “social standing” in the cut-throat high school environment to be with Artie. It’s really cute and sweet.
We also found out in this episode that Rachel may not get her role in “Funny Girl” and Santana put her out of her misery by getting her to work as a waitress in Sardis (I think?). I love the part when Santana and Rachel sang “Hard Days’ Night”. It’s really nice. They should sing more in that setting. It’s a really cool choreography and it looks really fun. But after the end of the scene, Rachel dragged Santana back home because they had “something to do”. Oh… but we all know what it was they had to do.
The next main storyline is Kurt and Blaine but I won’t touch on them yet because I want to save the best for last. So, other than these two main storylines, there are others interwoven between like Sue Sylvester back in McKinley High as a principal. Oh yes… and there’s also Tina being ragey queen. But it’s really sweet to see the guys – Blaine, Jake, Sam and Ryder – acting as The Beatles for Tina to choose as a her prom date. It’s also hilarious to see the girls acting like fangirls, especially Marley. Marley is me. Really.
Now, like I said, the best for last and Kurt and Blaine made the whole episode bearable. And I would have to go through it like a recap because everything is priceless.
So, Blaine organized a farewell picnic for Kurt and asked him to try again as boyfriends. Kurt said yes and it’s adorable how they always compared themselves to popular couples. Blaine began to stand up to perform a song for Kurt but Kurt was all “hell to the no” and blew the whistle and out came the marching band and the two lovebirds sang “Got To Get You Into My Life” and then they kissed in front of the whole school, a place where once they probably couldn’t do that without being bullied about it, which is great, I guess, that there’s change in the school environment (although we didn’t get to see it). Then, Blaine announced to the rest of New Directions that he and Kurt are back together and now he’s going to propose. Wait, what? And decided to enlist the entire universe (no, just New Directions, Vocal Adrenaline, Warblers and Haverbrook School for the Deaf) to help him with the proposal. Burt was part of the whole plan and while supposedly driving Kurt to the airport, he took the “shortcut” but Kurt knew what was happening and told him that he knew that he’s driving him to his “surprise-proposal”. Burt noticed he looked scared and began to tell the story between him and his mom. He then advised to listen to what Blaine had to say and then just tell him his answer. Kurt then walked into Dalton Academy where Blaine and the rest began to sing “All You Need Is Love” as they brought him around Dalton Academy and all the familiar places where the two had been together. Rachel then brought him to the stairs where him and Blaine first met and everyone were waiting for him including Blaine. Blaine then began the best proposal speech ever:
“We met right here. I took this man’s hand and we ran down that hallway. And for those that know me, I’m not in the habit of taking people’s hands I’ve never met before but I think that my soul knew something that my mind and body didn’t know yet. It knew that our hands were meant to hold each other’s, fearlessly and forever, which is why it’s never really felt like I’ve been getting to know you, it’s always felt like I was remembering you from something. As if every lifetime you and I have lived, we’ve chosen to come back and find each other and fall in love all over again, over and over for all eternity. And I just feel so lucky that I found you so soon in this lifetime because all I want to do, all I’ve ever wanted to do, is spend my life loving you. So, Kurt Hummel, my amazing friend, my one true love, will you marry me?”
Kurt said yes and so, everyone, my OTP is now engaged. Now, all Glee had to do is make Blaine graduate and move to New York so that they can be the almost-married couple that they are and plan their wedding. Can I please just get that? Before I die, preferably?
The only thing that frustrates me about this whole storyline is how rushed it all feels. I don’t know how the time in Glee works but they just got back together as boyfriends and then BAM! fiances! What! As a fan of this couple, yes, I do want to see them married because they are already like a married couple but that does not mean the writers have to rush this through. I just don’t see the whole development before it was led up to the proposal but this is how Glee is. It’s never going to be as good as they once were. But Chris Colfer’s and Darren Criss’ acting make up for it.
So, how do I find the whole episode? It’s okay. Like I said, the Kurt and Blaine storyline made up for it. I’ll just keep on watching this season to see where they are going to go from here. Hmmm…
Trailer for the next episode…
