(Man, it’s hard to find the official poster for this movie via Google. What’s up with that?)
Hello, non-demigods and mortal human beings with no superpower at all, I just came back from watching Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and of course, I will have to blog about it. Duh!
This movie is a sequel to 2010’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and we see Logan Lerman still playing the titular role in this movie. Here, we see the demigods going for another adventure to save themselves and the rest of the world from being destroyed by Kronos, who was revived by Luke. Yes, he was alive all this while. Why did we think he died in the first place? He’s a demigod. He can’t die! We also see an addition to Percy Jackson’s family. I swear, these Greek gods can’t keep their dicks in their pants!
It’s been three long years since the first movie and Logan Lerman looks very much different now than he was then. Then, he looked like a teenager. Now, he looked like a hot 21-year-old guy. (I just made myself sound like a cougar. Congratulations, Siti!) It didn’t help that between the first Percy Jackson movie and now, we have seen him in The Three Musketeers and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. He looked more muscley here. It reminds me of the time when I was watching Daniel Radcliffe and the rest of the cast of Harry Potter when they took a long break between Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It was obvious that they have “grown a lot” during the break and their faces mature a little.
Anyway, that’s not the point. (Okay, the point of the last paragraph was that I think Logan Lerman is cute.) But how do I feel about the movie? It is enjoyable. I laughed a lot during the movie. It was funny and light-hearted. The plot is not complicated and easy to absorb. I love the appearance of Nathan Fillion as Luke’s father. There was a moment where I felt the writers took a jab at Nathan’s career history when the character said: “Like any good TV shows, it was cancelled.” (Note: Not verbatim.) I thought it was a little dig on Firefly, which starred Nathan himself. It was really funny.
Like I said earlier, it is not complicated. You don’t have to think a lot. It’s not deep or dark. It’s a simple storyline. You just sit, relax, enjoy the movie and have a great adventure with Percy Jackson and his friends. If you think about bringing your kids along, go ahead. The movie is not long. It’s less than two hours. It is very easy for kids to follow. And if you want your kids to learn a little bit of Greek mythology, this would be a nice start to get them interested.
So, if you have not watched the movie yet, it will not be a waste of your money to watch it in theatres near you.
