If Siti can describe this week’s episode of Teen Wolf in one word, it will be pain. Pain in a good way though. Not in the “well this episode sucks” because Teen Wolf has improved so much through the season and this season is definitely more gritty and dark and I absolutely love it.
Onward to my review…
So it begins… the search for Sheriff Stilinsky and Melissa McCall. But as we were all clued in throughout the season, the sacrifices that the Darach (aka Jennifer) did are all in threes and since Daddy Stilinsky and Mommy McCall were taken, we all know who’s coming next – Papa Argent. Because the writers are arseholes who can’t leave the beloved Powerpuff Single Parents (PSP) alone! Of course, they want to hurt us, the audience, more and made us cry harder. Of course… If that’s their plan, it’s so working.
But first, we continued from last episode. Cora is still very much dying and Derek is still very much not knowing what to do, which leaves Isaac really pissed off at Derek because, to him, Derek was just sitting there doing absolutely nothing except being a sad, sad werewolf. Isaac left in a huff but Peter (oh Peter) told Derek not to take it too hard because it seemed like Isaac is shifting alliance to Scott, whom they all know is a True Alpha. Oh boy.
Seeing Derek all sad puppy over Cora, Peter decided to tell him that he can cure Cora because he has the power of an Alpha. But it obviously came with a price – losing his Alpha power and going back to being a Beta. Obviously because he’s Derek and he loves his sister, he will sacrifice his Alpha power for Cora. Awwww… but now now, I feel like Peter has a devious plan because, sir, I see your oh-so-not subtle smirk on camera.
Meanwhile, Isaac, Stiles, Allison and Papa Argent came up with a plan to save Daddy Stilinsky and Mommy McCall but to make this review shorter, that plan went to bust when Papa Argent electrocuted Isaac and handcuffed Allison to the steel bar, threw his weapon down while Jennifer simply walked in and took him. Poor Allison was left standing there, helpless, watching her daddy being taken away. Some time later, Isaac got Allison off and there was a moment here when you can definitely see the growing chemistry between the two. Now, this may or may not be because of the actors themselves being a real-life couple but later on in the episode, we know why.
Stiles, who was with Lydia in school trying to find out what is it about Lydia that Jennifer figured out, found out that Papa Argent was taken away and subsequently had a panic attack. Lydia tried to calm him down but wasn’t successful until she kissed him. Her excuse was that she read in a book somewhere that holding one’s breath would get rid of one’s panic attack but looking at her expression, that’s a bullcrap. She has developed some form of feeling for Stiles.
I would like to point out here that I have no idea how a panic attack looks like because I never had that kind of panic attack before but Dylan did a wonderful job in portraying it. We could see from the movement of his fingers that Stiles was having a panic attack. Great job!
Anyway, back to the show, Lydia was joking about making Stiles see Ms Morrell, which clicked in Stiles’ head that that’s exactly the one they should be looking for. When they got to her office, however, we didn’t see the counsellor but Heather’s best friend Danielle, sitting alone waiting for her when Stiles and Lydia barged in. She was all sassing them out trying to make them leave until it clicked in their head that Ms Morrell was never late. Stiles began to search her drawer and found Lydia’s file, which consisted of a picture of that goddamn tree. Stiles recognized the drawing and noticed that it was similar to all the other trees that Lydia kept drawing in class. Creepy! Stiles recognized the tree after all. Yes, everyone, it is the tree that Jennifer kept the Powerpuff Single Parents.
Oh, I forgot one more thing. All this while, Stiles was being questioned by an FBI agent I didn’t recognize on the show but the face is familiar to me elsewhere. Haha! Anyway, when Lydia and Stiles were planning to leave the school to find Derek and Peter (because obviously they’ve been there and supposed to know where it is but Lydia found out that their memories of the place were erased and as such, it was moot), Stiles was stopped by said FBI agent again and questioned in a classroom. Stiles refused to let him know what he obviously knew, leaving this FBI agent quite helpless, I must say. When said FBI agent asked where he’s going to stay, Doctor Deaton came to the rescue.
In the clinic, the gang, minus Scott, were all there trying to think of a way to find out where the tree was when Doctor Deaton told them that there was a way but they would need Scott.
Somehow, Stiles managed to get through to Scott, who is now a part of the Alpha Pack, who was earlier busy chasing after Ms Morrell. Ms Morrell then told the rest of the pack that Deucalion murdered Ennis. Oh boy. Deucalion then stabbed Ms Morrell with a stick. The rest of the pack began to attack her but Scott stopped them while Ms Morrell told Scott where to find Powerpuff Single Parents.
Anyway, so Scott met up with Stiles and Doctor Deaton. Awkward moment because Scott is now part of the Alpha Pack. Awww… no, they are bros! Doctor Deaton told them that they could shift the sacrifice from their parents to them but it came with a huge risk. Not only would they be dead for possibly 5 seconds but what they did would darken their hearts and invite other supernatural beings to the place. They would not see these supernatural beings but they would feel them for the rest of their lives. Stiles felt that it wouldn’t be any different from what’s been happening so far but Doctor Deaton warned that it would be not what they expected. I don’t really like the sound of that?
So, they went back to his clinic where Stiles, Scott and Allison held their parents’ personal belonging which had some form of meaning for them. Doctor Deaton then told them to pair up with someone whom they had a strong emotional connection, someone who would be able to hold them in the water for the time needed for them to die for 5 seconds and pulled them up when it’s needed. When Lydia tried to walk over to Allison, Doctor Deaton stopped her and told her to pair up with Stiles. Oh I see where this is going. Allison then asked him about her and Scott since both were going to be drowned in cold water. Doctor Deaton then looked at her and Isaac. Oh… Scott looked helplessly on. Well, I guess the only way the writers could write around the immense chemistry between Crystal Reed and Daniel Sharman is to actually put their characters together. Anyway, this left Scott with Doctor Deaton. Each of them then began to get into the tub of cold water and ice. Stiles then told Scott that if he didn’t survive but he did, he just wanted him to know that Scott’s dad is back. And the camera shifted over to the FBI agent, sitting in Scott’s room, tearing up. Awwww… Isaac, Lydia and Doctor Deaton then held them in the water.
What happened next? I have no idea except Scott’s eyes turned yellow when he opened them while in water.
Overall, the episode is as dark and gritty as the past episodes and I really really want to know what happened next. The next episode will be the last episode of Season 3A. But it’ll be really interesting to see what happened for Season 3B. We are already clued in to what will happen in this episode so I can’t wait to see what will happen then. But first of all, let’s see what will happen in the next episode.
Trailer for the next episode…
