The song is called “Broken” by an English singer-songwriter, Jake Bugg. And boy, my heart is broken after listening and simultaneously, reading the words to the song. You know, they say that the sadder the song, the more beautiful it is? Yes, this song is so good it hurts.

Honestly, I didn’t fall head over heels in love with the song when I first heard it. It has this folksy tune that is not really my cup of tea. But after hearing it day after day, it rubs off on me and earlier today, it kept looping in my head. I just can’t get rid of it. So, I went and looked for the words to the song:

Far and away, where they took you down

Led them over to your house

Where I’m broken

Down by the people if they let you breath

Don’t give a damn if you still can’t see

When I saw those words, the first thing that went through my mind was: “Did someone end his life?” And I was right when I found out further that Jake wrote this song about his friend who committed suicide. As if the song wasn’t sad enough, knowing the reason for the song to be written? I think putting my heart in a blender would be less painful!

For me, the song was simply about someone who was hurting but no one was there to listen or help because they don’t care or because it seemed that the person was fine on the exterior so no one bothered to ask.

It resonates to me because I am the kind of person who doesn’t really let people know if anything bothers her. I do keep my problems to myself until it accumulates and I couldn’t take it anymore and break down. But I still have some positivity left in me and I do feel that life is still worth living. Anything good or bad that I have experienced are all the things that make me who I am today. If it makes me a crazy fangirl, hey, at least I’m passionate about something (or someone)!

To people who read this blog, if you ever felt like it’s the end and you feel like things are getting worse and worse for you, just remember that it does get better and there’s a light at the end of that dark tunnel. Just keep on crawling, keep on walking and don’t ever give up. There are people who care about you. Sometimes, they are oblivious to your problems but you have to let them know. And if you still feel like no one is going to listen to you, feel free to comment on any of my posts even if it’s unrelated. I am willing to listen (or read, rather) from where I am in Singapore. I was told I’m a pretty good listener and Aunt Agony.

I hope tomorrow’s Music To Your Ears is happier than this one. I shall now go and make myself some sweet tea to soothe my achy heart.
