This week’s episode of Teen Wolf is a throwback to the past of a certain werewolf. Want to know who is this werewolf? Well, continue reading…
It’s no surprise who is this werewolf I was talking about in my little introduction because I gave it away in the screencap. Yes, everyone, this week, we find out about the time when Derek Hale was not a grumpy werewolf but a hormonal teenage one. We also find out how Deucalion became this angry mean alpha werewolf.
So there are two story arcs told in the viewpoint of two people I am absolutely not sure we should believe. Derek’s past was told by Peter Hale while Deucalion was told in the viewpoint of Grandpa Argent.
Did you know Derek was once in love with a girl? Yes, he fell head over heels in love with a girl named Paige, a beautiful and talented cellist. Sterek fans, I’m sorry, fangirls/boys, your ship is probably not gonna be canon ever. They got together but Derek seemed really obsessed by the idea that Paige might leave him if she found out that he’s a werewolf. When Paige was all alone in school, Ennis, that big giant werewolf who is a part of Deucalion’s pack, was there and bit her, wanting to turn her into a werewolf. What is with this show and people staying back in school till late at night? We all know not to stay in school till late at night. It’s in the invisible rule book of being a student (and a teacher)! School is really creepy late at night, no matter where you are in this part of the world. Worse still, if you are in Beacon Hills, where there are werewolves and now, evil druids! Anyway, she fought to survive (strong girl) but she eventually died in the arms of Derek after she confessed that she knew who Derek was all along and still loved him. Girl, you couldn’t have said that earlier? In the end, she couldn’t take the pain anymore and so, Derek decided to mercy kill her. After the kill, Derek’s eyes turned blue because he killed an innocent.
This story is like Romeo and Juliet, werewolf version. So, this whole story was told to Stiles and Cora. At the end of it all, Stiles didn’t really believe Peter because he felt like something was missing as it was told in Peter’s perspective. Thus, what’s plan? Stiles’ next ingenious plan is to actually ask Mr. Grumpy Wolf himself. Oh baby, good luck!
The other background story is of Deucalion told by Grandpa Argent. I must not be the only one who wanted to punch Grandpa Argent’s face everytime he appeared on screen, right? He’s only second to Joffrey Baratheon in my list of hated characters ever! So, anyway, I have to restrain from punching my computer screen as he was telling Scott and Allison the story of how Deucalion was actually not an evil alpha werewolf back in the day and not blind. He was actually a hippie werewolf. No, really, he is all about peace and called Grandpa Argent in to make peace but what did Grandpa Argent do? Grandpa Argent, being the arsehole of a human being that he was, gassed the whole damn place, killing his own people, seemingly putting the blame on Deucalion and then while Deucalion was crawling out of the warehouse, Grandpa Argent stabbed his eyes with arrows. What. a. bloody. arsehole!
In this story, we also got to see Mrs. Hale, who was a shape shifter, and might I add the only shape shifter in the whole legion of werewolf. Woah, badass! Also, we found out that Dr. Deaton is a druid and acts as an advisor to werewolves. I can’t take this. This is too much information. I’m drowning in it.
After all this, Scott told Grandpa Argent that he didn’t believe a single word that old man said and gave Grandpa Argent a threat. And boy, I like this Scott very much – authoritative and more aggressive but still soft and kind. No wonder he’s a true alpha.
I’m just gonna go on and say that no matter that these two stories may have been tweaked a little due to the sources the stories came from, I feel that they are still useful, for the characters on the show as well as us, the audience. For one, they have more information on Deucalion to try and beat the crap out of the guy. Another, we now know how the eye colour of a werewolf changes.
Honestly, this episode is not as exciting as the many episodes previously but I guess it is supposed to be as such. This episode is more informative and will act as a foundation for the next few episodes in Season 3A of Teen Wolf.
