TV Review: Teen Wolf – Currents

ImageSometimes I wonder if I’m watching Teen Wolf or a Stephen King-inspired horror movie. After last week’s episode, I’m starting to think that Teen Wolf is beginning to looking like a horror movie.

Review under the cut…

This week, the plot thickened with the three sacrifices but this time, it’s the doctors and because it’s doctor sacrificial time, Dr. Deaton is in danger and because he’s Dr. Deaton, he anticipated it and actually called for Scott’s help!

But you know what creeps me out this episode? The moth. Not just one moth, it’s a gazillion of moths. (By the way, what do you call a group of moths? A swarm? Swarm does sound good, judging by the episode.) Let me confess something: I have a fear of flying insects and when I say “flying insects”, I mean every insect that flies – Flying cockroach? Kill it with fire. Flies? Get out of my face. Flying beetles? Yeah, no thanks. Moths/Butterflies? Hell to the no. That’s why I never visited the butterfly park in Singapore. Never will I ever do that, thank you. So this episode gives me the heebie-jeebies and I don’t think I can sleep at night, at least not without one eye open.

Another thing I shall confess: I love Team Human. I don’t think Scott will ever be able to help and do what he does without his human sidekick, Stiles, along with Lydia and Allison. That’s what I love about the show – yes, werewolves are powerful but without the help of smart humans like those three (and this episode shows that they are not alone because sweet Danny is apparently a Science genius), they wouldn’t be able to figure out half of the mysteries in Beacon Hills.

Talking about Danny, why do I feel that Ethan could switch sides? He seemed to feel a sense of guilt when he walked away after Boyd was killed. Also, I could go with Ethan switching sides because Stiles saved his life and then Scott’s mother saved Danny’s life. He seemed to owe these people a whole lot, to be honest.

And yes, everyone, Boyd is gone and I’m pretty sure we will find out next episode how Derek will cope with the loss of one of his pack members after losing Erica. I love the little flashback on Erica’s last days. But now that Scott knew he’s a True Alpha and he’s the one Deucalion is after and not Derek, what will happen? Will he let Derek know? Will Derek know? Does Derek already know?

But amidst the dark plots, there is a little bit of light and humour, which made me love the show. After knowing that the evil druid is after doctors, Scott and Isaac took turns to watch over Scott’s mother but it was unsuccessful, to say the least, when both actually fell asleep. I already pictured Scott like a little puppy but with Isaac in the mix now, we have two puppies with one confused puppy in the name of Isaac. Another hilarious scene is when Stiles, Lydia and Cora played the ouija board to try to find out where Dr. Deaton was. Cora’s exasperated expressions along with Stiles’ sheer frustration and Lydia’s nonchalance are recipes for laughter.

And what is with the writers always trying to have at least one Danny and Stiles scene? Because it is genius! The best quote out of the entire episode is when Stiles visited Danny in the hospital and whilst trying to convince Danny that it was all a dream with Danny who remained unconvinced that he’s dreaming of Stiles looking into his bag, Stiles said: “I don’t know, Danny, okay?! It’s your dream. Take responsibility for it. Now, shut up and go back to sleep!” It is unintentionally motivational.

All in all, love the episode albeit a little creepy and I’m still not over the moths.

Siti is just simply a Singaporean girl who has nothing better to do than watch movies and TV shows, listen to music and read books because, let's face it, what else can she, a non-adventurer girl, do in her spare time in this small island? This blog is for her to post her more "professional" reviews of movies, TV shows, books and music and as such, this blog is not spoiler-free so be warned. She may tend to get a little fangirly but fangirling is part of her life that she would not like to get rid of. When she is not sitting on her bottom doing this, you can find her going to work as a project manager in an online research panel company. However, that is the more boring (if that is even remotely possible) side of her life that she does not want to ever share.
