I know, I know, I missed a couple of episode reviews of Teen Wolf. I wanted to come up with an awesome reason why I didn’t write my reviews for the two episodes before this latest one but I came up with none except that I was being a lazy arse. And also that I just watched the two episodes before this one like 2 hours ago. But, I don’t regret my decision at all because Motel California has got to be one of the best episodes of Teen Wolf.
Cut for possible spoilers for those who have not watched…
So, this episode began with the fact that contrary to the teenage werewolves’ beliefs, Derek is still alive and getting it on with the teacher, while the rest of the Beacon Hills’ teenagers and their coach were left to stay in a really creepy motel named Glen Capri.
Now, this episode felt like a Final Destination movie. It is so creepy that whatever thing that Lydia saw in that fire creeped me out so much I don’t know if I could sleep now.
That motel they were staying apparently is famous for suicides and kudos for getting a creepy old woman with a sign for the number of suicides in the motel. Yeah, thanks, Teen Wolf, let’s up the creepy factor. I can say creepy so many times in this review because this episode is that!
And I do not want Lydia’s life. I don’t know what ability she has but storyline-wise, I really want to know what it is. She has like a “I can hear dead people” power or something. But whatever it is, it saved the werewolves’ lives, even Ethan.
Talking about Ethan, hello, simulating gay sex scene on Teen Wolf. How about that? Kudos to MTV for not backing down from showing us two guys getting it on half-naked!
And of course, the world is not balanced if we do not have one from the heterosexual side – Derek and Jennifer doing the deed. But that seemed to help Derek heal faster. Hmmm… if Scott knew that, he would have probably done that.
But the best scene in the whole episode (and even series, I might add) would have to go with Scott and Stiles. That scene when Scott felt so alone, like no one could understand him and not important to anyone, Stiles, his best friend, the guy who went through everything with him and didn’t leave him even when he turned into a werewolf, that guy came through for him because no one else knew Scott like Stiles did. No one could understand Scott like Stiles. Like Stiles said in that scene, Scott is not just his best friend, he is his brother. Stiles showed Scott that he is important to him and he needs him. I have to applaud Dylan O’Brien and Tyler Posey for making me sob through that whole scene. It was brilliantly and beautifully done.
I might also be way off but when I watched that scene a second time, I realized that it could also be a message to people out there who are going through depression and felt suicidal that they are not alone and there are people who love them and would be there for them.
Seriousness aside, Motel California is one of the best episodes ever. Go Team Human! Also, they totally missed out the chance of playing “Hotel California” by Eagles.
Trailer for the next episode…
