TV Episode Review: Glee – All Or Nothing

Yes, you see it right. It’s a review and not a recap because I am so annoyed that I could not even re-watch it without fast-forwarding certain parts of the episode so that I do not inevitably destroy my laptop due to my frustration over what I just watched.

This is the worst finale I have ever watched on Glee or any other shows ever in my entire existence of watching TV shows. I was bored the entire time watching the whole episode. I understand that Heather Morris has left Glee because she’s focusing on her pregnancy (Her baby bump was very obvious in the episode) and as such, they wanted to wrap up her storyline. But I do not get the catfish storyline. Who did not guess it was Unique all along? Who? It was one of the most unsuspenseful plotline, if not the most unsuspenseful plotline.

Okay, let’s talk about the good stuff.

Rachel’s storyline’s ending the way it did was great. So, we would wait and see next season if the producers of the Broadway is stupid enough not to get the incredibly talented Rachel into Funny Girl. And if she does not, then what will happen? But if she does, which I bet she will, how much of her life would change?

The closure of Brittany and Santana’s relationship was also great. Santana has obviously moved on, exploring and enjoying her life in New York while Brittany will also moved on to be in MIT, which I find strangely amusing but okay, whatever, it is Glee. They are, first and foremost, best of friends. So, it was great to see the ending when Santana came over to help Brittany up from the stage and hugged as they walked away.

The closure of the whole Will and Emma storyline. They are finally married so we do not have to resort to Will’s drama anymore in the next two seasons. Hopefully.

I love The Hoosierdaddies’ performances. Jessica Sanchez really killed those two songs. I really wished they would have won but they did not because they did a Vocal Adrenaline. They should have used other people as well to sing, which New Directions did. So, it was more of a solo performance with many back-up singers/dancers in the case of The Hossierdaddies.

I love Whiffenpoofs’ appearance on the show. It was such a pleasant surprise to see them sing “The Rainbow Connection”.

Watching a same-sex marriage proposal and kiss on the show was really great. I knew it was coming but it was still great to see it on Glee. As many gripes as I have for the show, it has done really well for LGBT visibility.

The negative stuff, which is basically only one: Kurt and Blaine.

Glee has one of the best story arcs on the show, and that arc is Kurt and Blaine. And that could probably be due to the fact that these characters are played by two of the most amazing young talents and two of the most gorgeous ones as well – Chris Colfer and Darren. Another reason is the story of these two together, obviously. People are invested.

I have read other reviews of the episode and they were all annoyed at how it ended with Kurt and Blaine. The way it ended was not a “Oh my God, what will happen next season? I’m sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for it” feeling. It is really rude and abrupt to end it so unfinished. Yes, it is unfinished.

Before the episode aired, the promotion was about a “surprise wedding” with Blaine on it and with pictures of Blaine looking for an engagement ring. Basically almost everything was revolved around Kurt and Blaine and for them to do what they did to the fans of the couple and to the viewers are shitty.

If I remember correctly, a reviewer mentioned that it is like promising us an ice-cream but giving us the cherry instead of the ice-cream.

It is so frustrating that some fans had given up and probably will not be back watching the next two seasons. And I do understand why.

And I do not like how after what happened during the Valentine’s Day episode and “Come What May”, everything went spiralling downwards when it comes to this story arc.

The thing I love about Kurt and Blaine is the way they communicate with each other. This season I felt nothing from Kurt’s side after “Come What May”. I know he still has feelings for Blaine but other than that, I had nothing else. Practically everything else came from Blaine’s point of view, which is annoying me because I felt it is so one-sided and it made Blaine like a love-sick puppy and made Kurt like a cruel person who is so oblivious to feelings when we, the viewers, know that that’s not who Kurt is. The thing I also love about their relationship is how they are so in tune with each other no matter whether they are friends or boyfriends. Yet, I see nothing this season.

I was so frustrated that it took me two days to write this out. I thought I would have calmed down from wanting to send a hate letter to the writers. But no, I am still annoyed and angry.

But then again, I probably should have seen this coming. Ryan Murphy, as talented as he is, has the tendency to commit writing suicide after two to three seasons – Popular and Nip/Tuck, everyone? His shows would be so good for the first two seasons and then went downhill afterwards.

The only reason, I believe, that Fox gave Glee two more seasons because what else has Fox got? American idol‘s popularity has dipped and viewers seemed to gear more towards The Voice, which is under NBC. It probably only has Glee and New Girl now. ABC has picked up Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and you know how popular Marvel is and that show would probably be successful. So, what else does Fox have? Nothing I can think of.

Anyway, Jacob Artist mentioned there were (or was) alternate ending. But I am not sure whether Glee would release this alternate ending(s) or leave it the way it was. And if they release this alternate ending(s), and if it proves to be better than the actual one that was shown, they are in deep shit.

I will still come back to watch but only for Kurt and Blaine. I will suffer through the rest of the episodes in the next two seasons for these two characters. And I will continue to write recaps of the show unless I am annoyed like I am now with the show. But they need to fix it. The way they are writing right now has no consistency to it. One writer will write whatever he wants and the others will write whatever they want and they tend to not look at each other’s work and try to keep some form of consistency to it. They do not even pretend to do so.

I have some other shows to catch up on – Once Upon A Time, Hannibal, Criminal Minds, Smash, to name a few. So, for now, my recaps will be for Game of Thrones.

Siti is just simply a Singaporean girl who has nothing better to do than watch movies and TV shows, listen to music and read books because, let's face it, what else can she, a non-adventurer girl, do in her spare time in this small island? This blog is for her to post her more "professional" reviews of movies, TV shows, books and music and as such, this blog is not spoiler-free so be warned. She may tend to get a little fangirly but fangirling is part of her life that she would not like to get rid of. When she is not sitting on her bottom doing this, you can find her going to work as a project manager in an online research panel company. However, that is the more boring (if that is even remotely possible) side of her life that she does not want to ever share.
