The last episode of Glee, we had an eyeful of Blaine’s butt but the latest episode of Game of Thrones raised the bar by having more naked butts and many other NSFW scenes. Some people who “ship” some of the characters would be happy with this episode – there are progresses in storylines and some surprises in store. I love the little flashback from Season 1 (Hey, Ned Stark!) and Season 2 that this episode has so I guessed there would be mentions of it in this episode.
So, onward with my recap…
Somewhere in Riverlands
Thoros chanted a prayer to the Lord of Light that if Sandor is guilty of his crimes, he would die in the combat. Beric’s hand was cut with a sword and with the blood, somehow the sword lit up with fire. Oooohhh… They then began to combat while Arya looked on, shouting “Kill him!”. After a long while, Sandor stabbed Beric on the heart. Thoros quickly came to his aid and said a prayer. Arya came forward wanting to kill Sandor but Gendry stopped her. We all thought Beric is dead but nope, he’s alive. What is this magic? Sandor was released but Arya told Beric that they shouldn’t because he’s a murderer. Beric retorted back: “Not in the eyes of God!” Arya tried to argue back but Beric refused to listen and let Sandor go.
Arya found Gendry repairing Beric’s armour. When asked why, Gendry admitted his intention to stay behind with the Brotherhood and be their blacksmith. Arya told him it would be dangerous once the Lannisters found the Brotherhood and would not spare the smiths. Gendry replied that the Lannisters wanted him killed long before this. Gendry said the Brotherhood needed good men. Arya told him that her brother, Robb, needed good men too. Gendry said he was done serving men. Arya replied that he just told her he would serve Beric but Gendry felt that Beric was chosen as a leader by the others and they are a family, which he never had. Arya told him she can be his family. Gendry smiled and said she won’t be his family but his lady. EXCUSE ME! Say what? Oh my God! Arya, why did you run away? Oh my God!
Later, Arya was found saying out loud the names of her enemies. She looked at Thoros and asked what they’re going to do with her. Thoros replied that they would bring her back to Robb. Arya felt that she’s a hostage to be sold. Thoros didn’t refute that. Beric joined them and asked Arya if she’s scared of him. Arya denied it. Arya thought he died and Beric said he did but Thoros brought him back six times. But everytime he came back, he felt a bit less, pieces got chipped away. What the hell? Is he Lord Voldemort or something? Arya asked if they could bring back a man without a head. Awww, Arya. Beric told Arya that her father was a good man and he’s at rest now.
At Harrenhal, the men delivered Jaime and Brienne to Lord Bolton but he didn’t seem pleased by the way they were treated. Brienne was released and would be under his protection. Jaime asked him about his family in King’s Landing. Lord Bolton told him of Stannis Baratheon storming the gates with thousands of men but his father’s army prevailed and his family, particularly his sister, was alive and well. He found Jaime unwell and was brought to Qyburn, a maester stripped of his chain, who treated his right arm or what’s left of it. Ewww… the blood though.
Jaime later went to the baths where Brienne was as well and told her that he’s not interested when Brienne hid in the other corner of the bath tub. Are you sure, Jaime? Really? Jaime told her to pull him out of the tub if he fainted but Brienne didn’t care. He then told her that she swore to Catelyn Stark to bring him back to King’s Landing in one piece and mocked her. She stood up, looking about to fight him, naked. Woooo! But he apologized, admitted that she protected him more so than others had done and was tired of fighting. He asked for a truce but Brienne told him one needs trust to have a truce. Jaime told her he trusted her and Brienne seemed to soften to that. Jaime then told his side of the story of killing the Mad King. He killed the Mad King to save the city and its people from being burned to death by the wildfire hidden all over the King’s Landing. Brienne asked why he didn’t tell Ned Stark but Jaime believed that Ned Stark would not believed him because he has judged him from the moment he set eyes on him. He then stood up and fell but Brienne caught him and called for help shouting “The King slayer!” but Jaime told her his real name.
In Riverrun, the two Lannister boys who were held captive in the dungeon were killed by Lord Karstark and four of his men. The two dead boys were brought to Robb and the men were captured. Lord Karstark told Robb that he did it out of revenge. He then insulted Robb and in his rage, Robb commanded to hang them. His uncle, mother and wife advised him not to kill Lord Karstark due to his rank and that him and his men were North men. They would abandon him. He mulled over it but decided to behead Lord Karstark. Hmm… I don’t know if that’s a good idea, Robb.
Later, Robb told his wife that the Karstarks were gone and he lost half of his army. He talked his thoughts out with his wife. He told her that they had a mission when they first started this but now they looked like bickering children. True. His army is a mess right now. His wife suggested to give them a new purpose but then admitted she didn’t even know where Winterfell was. While teaching his wife where each place was, he was struck with an idea: He couldn’t force the Lannisters to meet on the field nor attack them where they were the strongest but he could attack them where they were not, which was Casterly Rock, taking the Lannisters’ home but he needed to replace the Karstarks with… Lord Walder Frey. Right. Okay, you were supposed to marry his daughter but you didn’t and now you want to forge alliance with him after not marrying his daughter? Yeah, I can sense there will be difficulty there.
Beyond the Wall
Orell tried to pry for information from Jon about the Nightwatch’s patrol. Jon replied that there were a thousand men left protecting the wall and insisted it as so. But he was threatened to be killed if Jon lied to them. During this standoff, Ygritte stood by defending Jon. Awww… Jon told her later that he didn’t need protection from her but Ygritte said he owed her one for her help and stole his sword. She ran into a cave and wanted him to break his vows as a Nightwatch and basically have sex with her. Wooo! And they did. I guess it was such an awesome sex that Ygritte admitted to Jon that she didn’t want to leave the cave ever. Awwww…By the way, if you squint really hard, you can see Jon’s naked butt.
King’s Landing
Cersei met up with Littlefinger, told him of her concern about the Tyrells and asked for a favour to find out more from the Tyrells. Hmm… I don’t really like her. I just feel that after Jaime’s story and what I know of Tyrion, Cersei is less admirable in my eyes. I haven’t seen the good side of her yet.
Meanwhile, Tyrion met up with Margaery’s grandmother about the expenses of the wedding. Tyrion tried to negotiate the payment for the royal wedding but she said that as per any royal wedding, it would be paid off by the royal family. To Tyrion’s suprise, she offered to pay for half of the expenses and the celebrations would be as per planned.
Later, Sansa and Margaery watched Loras practising with another swordsman. Liking what she’s seeing, Sansa asked Margaery when she would marry Loras. Margaery replied that she would tell Joffrey once she’s married to him but Sansa worried that Joffrey won’t let her leave and had too many reasons to keep her in King’s Landing. Margaery said that he had one reason to let her go – it would please Margaery.
After the practice, his squire, Olyvar, helped Loras out of his armour and seemed to be flirting with him. And I was right, they had sex after that. Wooo! I’m still sad that he couldn’t mourn for Renly properly and now this. Anyway, Loras told Olyvar that he was about to get married to Sansa but even Sansa didn’t know his attraction to men. But Olyvar apparently had a lot of experience with the husbands and they continued to have sex.
Then we found out Olyvar was a spy for Littlefinger and told him that Loras was to be married to Sansa. Littlefinger then met Sansa as she was watching ships go by and told Sansa that he’s leaving soon. Sansa asked if he still wanted her to come with him but Littlefinger said only if she wanted to. Sansa said that it would be dangerous for him and herself if she comes along with him and decided to stay and wait. Littlefinger reminded her that he’s her friend. Yeah, right. Friend with hidden agenda, I’m sure.
Tyrion was asked to a meeting with his father and found Cersei there in the meeting as well. Tyrion told his father that he managed to negotiate with the Tyrells and saved money for the wedding. Tywin told Tyrion of Tyrell’s plan to marry Sansa to Loras to which Tyrion replied that even though Sansa didn’t have Loras’ “favourite bits”, it would make do. Haha! Oh dear. Tywin was angry that Tyrell was stealing the “key to the north” right under his nose but Tyrion reminded him of Robb. Tywin told Tyrion that the Karstarks left Robb’s army and his days were numbered. Theon Greyjoy also murdered both of Robb’s brothers. Oh wait till you find out Robb’s other plan and that Bran and Rickon were alive and Bran had the power of a seer even though he’s crippled and had another seer by his side. And Arya was still alive and probably on her way back to Robb. Anyway, Tywin said that that made Sansa the heir to Winterfell and he didn’t want to see her on the hands of Tyrells. Tyrion advised against refusing Tyrell’s decision to marry Sansa to Loras as they helped them win the war against Stannis Baratheon. Tywin replied that it’s a plot and so they needed to act fast. He revealed his plan to marry Sansa to Tyrion. WHAT? Tyrion argued that Joffrey made Sansa’s life miserable after he chopped of her father’s head and now that she’s free of him, he’s giving her to him, which was cruel. Tyrion asked what if he refused and Tywin replied that he wanted him to reward him for his act during the war and this was the reward. It was also time for him to wed but Tyrion reminded him that he was wed. Cersei was seemingly laughing at Tyrion but it didn’t end there. Tywin told Cersei that she would marry Loras. WHAT? Cersei refused. Tywin planned for Tyrion to secure the North while Cersei’s Highgarden. Cersei said that she’s Queen Regent but Tywin reminded her that she’s his daughter and will marry Loras, putting to rest the rumours he’s heard of her. I’m guessing her and Jaime. Oooohhh… I’m not liking this at all. I still think Cersei is an evil bitch. Tyrion clearly is the nicest of the Lannisters and Jaime is proving that he’s not that bad of a guy either. And now, what? Sansa has three suitors or something like that – Loras, Littlefinger and Tyrion. Oh god!
Dragonstone
Stannis Baratheon visited his wife at the towers and told her of his infidelity but was surprised when she told him that Melisandre had told her everything and bore him a son that she couldn’t give him. She then walked over to the three stillborn sons that she kept. Ewwww… Oh my God! What the hell? Is she crazy? I think she’s crazy. Anyway, his wife said that she gave him nothing, which wasn’t true. We then found out that they had a daughter but his wife said he didn’t need to see her as she’s a distraction but Stannis insisted and his wife couldn’t refuse that. He then walked off to see her and aww man, his daughter’s face was half burned. She asked him about the battle and the Onion Knight, who promised her to bring back a present from the capital. Stannis told her that he was imprisoned for treason and won’t be visiting her. Awww…
Later, she sneaked down to see the Onion Knight in the dungeon and asked him if he was a traitor. He didn’t deny it and said that he disobeyed Stannis but she didn’t care because he’s her friend. Awww… she must not have any friends. Okay, now I’m just sad. She brought him a book to read about Aegon and his dragons and told him she would bring more books for him to read but he refused because he couldn’t read. She offered to teach him how to read but he felt it would be dangerous. She told him that they couldn’t lock them both up in a cell. She then proceeded to teach him how to read. Awww…
Across the Narrow Sea
Daenerys and her army continued to march to somewhere. Jorah and Barristan had a lovely chat about past battles. Barristan then said that he had served for mad men all his life and wondered what it would feel like to serve for someone with pride. He asked Jorah whether he believed in her and he said he did with all his heart. Awww… Anyway, so apparently Jorah seemed to try to pry for information of where Barristan’s loyalty stood. Barristan told Jorah that his reputation would be bad for Daenerys but Jorah replied that while Barristan was still serving Robert Baratheon, he was trying to fight off Robert’s men from killing her. Ha! Got you one there, Barristan. Barristan told him that they should do whatever it took for the cause but Jorah said that he’s just another exile like him and he took orders from the Queen and proceeded to ride off. Oooh, man has sass!
Meanwhile, Daenerys asked her officers to choose their own leader from their ranks and they parted to show their leader, Grey Worm. Surprised by the name, Daenerys turned to Missandei who told her that once they were made slaves, they were given a new name to remind them of who they are – vermin. Daenerys commanded them to choose their own names that would give them pride. But Grey Worm refused as the name he was born with was when he was taken away to be a slave and Grey Worm was the name when he was freed by Daenerys. Oh yeahhhhh…
And that’s the end of my recap of the latest episode of Game of Thrones. Oh boy, it wasn’t as interesting and exciting as the last episode, I feel, but there are developments and many surprises. So, we’ll see what happens next. I seriously can’t wait for the bomb to drop that, with the exception to Ned Stark, everyone else in the Stark family is alive. Haha!
Stay tuned next week for another of my recap of Game of Thrones.
