TV Episode Recap: Glee – Sweet Dreams

I don’t know if it’s just me but everytime I see the words “sweet dreams”, I start singing Eurythmics’ “sweet dreams are made of thisssss who am I to disagreeeeeee”. Anyone? Just me? Okay. I shall be alone in my corner singing the song and waving my hands up in the air.

So, anyway, this episode of Glee is called “Sweet Dreams”, which is about dreams. What else would it be, right?

Onward to my recap…

Lima, Ohio

Finn decided to study to be a teacher. Oh, hey, he has an ambition now. Finally! So, he applied to study in University of Lima ย At first, he was being the good student, studying in the library when suddenly, Harlem Shake song came on and everyone in the library started to dance. This happened quite a few times that it did start to get really annoying for me.

Everywhere he went, Harlem Shake came on like a really horrible bad joke. And then he got into his dorm room, and yes, you are right the Harlem Shake came on and he decided to join in and did his Finn dance. Everyone then started to leave and he opened the sleeping bag on the ground to reveal Puck! Seriously, where do these kids get their money from? Puck said that he’s Finn’s roommate even though he didn’t go to that college. Is that even allowed? Wait, this is Glee. Why am I questioning logic? What logic? There’s no logic in Glee!

Of course, when there’s Puck, there’s fun. Finn and Puck then organized some wet sliding thing. Two bikini-clad girls wanted to join in but had no tickets so they gave Finn their bikini tops. Oh wow, nudity! Finn then went on making grilled cheese using iron. Really? Is that even hygienic?

Then, Puck organized a party in some frat house and they started to sing “Fight For Your Right (To Party)”. I had guessed that it would be fun and I was right! They sang. The frat guys then wanted the two of them in frat because for the first time, it was fun and all. So, now Puck and Finn are frat boys! Hurrah!

So, with all the partying and fun, Finn was pretty much hammered and missed his Sociology test, which Puck found out is a requirement for Finn’s teaching major. That’s when he had a talk with Finn. And he has a point: You can be a crappy student. Just don’t end up being a crappy teacher. They need to prove to others that they are worth something so Finn needs to prove that he’ll be a great teacher one day while Puck will work on the screenplay and give his full support to Puck while Finn works to be a great teacher. Awww… that’s nice.

Oh that is one crappy screencap done by yours truly.

Speaking of teachers…

Mr Schue wanted New Directions to sing 80s songs for the Regionals this year, which has a theme of “Dreams” and wanted the kids to learn these songs that I don’t know of. Marley had been writing some original songs and requested to try them out but Mr Schue was being a jerk and blew her off, especially when she began to say the name, Finn, which angered him more. Mr Schue, I’m not so sorry to say this but yes, Finn was probably a better teacher than you are to these kids.

Glee 4

Blaine set up a secret Glee meeting with the other kids and decided that they should come up with a new setlist and discussed it with Mr Schue. Marley wanted them to try the songs she had written. Kitty rebutted and did not want to sing a song about a fat mom, barfing and something else I didn’t get, which apparently Marley wrote all those three looking by her facial expressions. Okay…

Meanwhile, Mr Schue tried to make amends with Finn and apologized for something I completely forgot why. He needed Finn back to help him coach New Directions and the kids needed him too but Finn flat out refused it because he’s having fun in college. Wooo! Okay, whatever.

The next day, Blaine told Mr Schue that they came up with an alternative setlist. Mr Schue continued his jerk streak and asked why they would rebel. He found it unacceptable and then, like the jerk he is, pointed out that Unique needed to tone down on the “boob thing” and that Sam doesn’t have a twin brother, Evans. (Oh, by the way, after the fake shooting last episode, something happened apparently to Sam who kept going in and out acting as Evans and himself and Tina had been dressing up in steampunk costumes.) Really? Usually, I have no opinions about Mr Schue but for him to put that slightly frowny face on Blaine and made him a little scared? Okay, that’s it. I need to kick Mr Schue to Timbuktu right now!

Glee 5

Anyway, Blaine, Unique, Sam/Evans and Marley with Brad (Hey Brad!) walked into the auditorium. Marley wanted them to sing an original song that she wrote that is not about her mom or Taylor Swift’s boyfriends but instead, it’s about friendship. So they began singing. Blaine said it was incredible and Sam asked if she has more, which she does, and Marley wanted them to meet up again to sing them but Blaine said they should tell everyone else and Mr Schue about it but Marley refused because Mr Schue made it clear he wasn’t interested while the man himself was backstage watching all of this. Feel guilty now, you jerk!

Anyway, so somehow after the talk Finn and Puck had, Finn talked to the dean about Mr Schue’s offer to help him. The dean offered to give him college credits for helping Mr Schue out. But Finn has a condition and wanted Mr Schue to treat him like an equal and not his personal assistant. He wanted to be a teacher. It must be a partnership. So, all worked out well.

The next day, Mr Schue walked in and the kids were still kind of pissed at him and he sort of apologized for being a jerk. He then introduced Finn back and they will be working as a team to coach New Directions. Awww…

Glee 6

Marley was then called out to the front to sing a song but Mr Schue surprised her by asking her to teach them one of her original songs. They ended it all off by singing “Outcast”.

In other news, Nene Leakes returned as Coach Roz to replace Sue as the Cheerios coach. She was unpacking her stuff and called Blaine and Becky in to her office. She was extremely suspicious of Sue’s choice of the two of them as co-captains. She understood why Becky was picked but she didn’t understand why Blaine, or Fruity Fonzie as she called him (how many nicknames has Blaine gotten now?), was chosen because he had not done a cheerleading routine in his life but somehow he was still chosen as co-captain for the squad. Coach Roz believed that Blaine used his “handsome fruity voodoo powers” and put a hex on her and caused her to do what she did and got herself fired.ย I couldn’t get pass “handsome fruity voodoo powers” though. He does have that power, I’m sure. Look at Kurt. He bought a boyfriend pillow instead of having Adam to cuddle him because Adam is not the same as Blaine. Haha!

Anyway, Blaine was all confused throughout the whole conversation that I want to cuddle him close to me and pet his gelled hair. Becky went to Blaine’s defence and said he had nothing to do with it. Awww… Coach Roz asked how would she know and if she was there. Becky was silent for a while before she answered no. And because Blaine is smart, he put two and two together and believed Becky had something to hide. Coach Roz then asked the two of them to take a loyalty pledge that they wouldn’t do whatever that they did to her too. I have to stop right here because Blaine’s face!

Glee 7

That is the face of a man who probably asked himself repeatedly why he’s still in McKinley with crazy ass teachers.

So, they repeated whatever Coach Roz said and this scene is so hilarious because they mimicked everything and their faces. This scene should be gif-ed. Screencaps will not do it justice.

After the crazy pledge taking, they were free to go. Blaine caught up with Becky and asked if she knew something that he didn’t about Sue, to which she replied: “Mind your own gay business, gay Blaine!” I cannot. She then walked away pushing off a xylophone.

Glee 8

I laughed for 5 minutes here. The scene in Coach Roz’s office and this one are just pure comic gold.

New York

Glee 9

Rachel was preparing for her audition as Fanny for Broadway’s Funny Girl and dedicated herself to being Barbra. She was practising all the Funny Girl‘s songs when her mother, Shelby, came to see her and help her choose an audition song. Shelby advised against singing a Funny Girl song and instead go for something different because the producers would be looking for someone who is not a carbon copy of Barbra. They began singing “Next To Me”.

Before her audition, Rachel called Finn up and confided in him that she didn’t know what song to sing. Finn then told her that she did her best whenever she sang something personal to her. Awwww… that’s sweet. But I still think it’s better for Rachel to be by herself for now. I feel very different about Kurt and Blaine though. I love that they are strong individually but together, they make miracles happen.

Glee 10

The next day, for the audition, Rachel began to sing “Don’t Stop Believin'”. While performing, she imagined the Original 6 in the pilot singing with her. Obviously, the Original 6 has now grown a bit and looked different now. I cried a little here because this made me miss the old Glee more so than ever. It reminded of what Glee was all about back then. The new Glee won’t give the same feeling the old Glee gang ever did for me.

Glee 11

The performance didn’t go unnoticed by the producers. When asked, Rachel replied that she imagined her friends there with her.

Back in the loft, she was waiting for the callback while Kurt was baking them some cookies while looking gorgeous at the same time. Seriously, who looks like an angel and fashionable and gorgeous while baking cookies? Kurt Hummel, that’s who.

Glee 12

So Kurt offered Rachel some cookies but she refused. Who refuses Kurt’s cookies? Anyway, Rachel was about to give up completely when her phone rang. While she took the call, Kurt was in the background munching his cookies and being all excited for his best friend and looking like a little puppy doing so. You see, how can I not love Kurt and Blaine together? Both of them are puppies who deserve to be together. I’m going off-track here. So, Rachel got off the phone and told him that she got a callback and they jumped up and down. Rachel is really lucky to have Kurt as her best friend. Sometimes, I thought to myself that she doesn’t deserve that. But then again, they are both similar in their dreams and very driven. No one will understand Rachel as much as Kurt does.

So, that’s it! That’s the end of this episode recap that is so lacking of Kurt. Till the next Glee episode recap.

Siti is just simply a Singaporean girl who has nothing better to do than watch movies and TV shows, listen to music and read books because, let's face it, what else can she, a non-adventurer girl, do in her spare time in this small island? This blog is for her to post her more "professional" reviews of movies, TV shows, books and music and as such, this blog is not spoiler-free so be warned. She may tend to get a little fangirly but fangirling is part of her life that she would not like to get rid of. When she is not sitting on her bottom doing this, you can find her going to work as a project manager in an online research panel company. However, that is the more boring (if that is even remotely possible) side of her life that she does not want to ever share.
