My Game of Thrones Episode Recap will be delayed and instead, I will give you my review of the songs from the next episode of Glee first.
The next episode of Glee will be called “Sweet Dreams” and to be honest, since I have shunned from general Glee spoilers except for spoilers of two characters that I actually care about, I have no idea what the plotline for the next episode will be except Marley has written songs and this episode will have Marley’s “original song”. And I guess it is brought over by Marley’s video confession in the last episode that there are songs that she had written and kept in a drawer.
Anyway, enough of that, let’s hear the music! First up…
“Outcast” sung by New Directions
This is an original song that was “written” by Marley. I’m always neutral when it comes to original songs in Glee. It can either go really bad or really good, which most often than not, goes right in the middle. This song is okay to me. I’m not extremely excited over it but it doesn’t make me throw my precious computer across the room so I guess that’s positive. The chorus is quite catchy: “We are, we are, we areeeeeee the outcast out-out-outcast”.
“Fight For Your Right (To Party)” sung by Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) and Noah Puckerman (Mark Salling)
The two boys are back! And they are back with a rockin’ bang! This song is fun and it makes you want to jump up and down on your bed, playing air guitar and headbang all over your room. I can’t wait to watch the performance for this song on the show. Finn and Puck are now college boys and I’m expecting college boys kind of fun with this song.
“You Have More Friends Than You Know” sung by Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss), Marley (Melissa Benoist), Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) and Unique (Alex Newell)
I think at some point during the song, my brain drifts away to other mindless things. Even though it’s sleep-inducing, I can tell it is going to be a sweet New Directions “We are family” song and lots of hugs and smiles. I’m not sure of the reason why this song is sung but I will take a wild guess that it will be about Unique and/or Sam and Marley and Blaine are doing their duty as BFFs and sing the song for their friends.
“Next To Me” sung by Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and Shelby (Idina Menzel)
As much as this song is done quite nicely and sung by two Broadway starlets, Emeli Sande’s voice is still stuck to me. This cover version is not bad. In fact, it is great! But I guess I was so used to listening to the song on the radio with Emeli’s voice repeatedly more than once a day everyday in the past, it is hard to get rid of it from my head. It will take a while. But this cover is beautiful nonetheless.
“Don’t Stop Believin'” sung by Rachel Berry (Lea Michele)
Well, this is nostalgic. There are three versions of this song on Glee now – the pilot, Season 1’s Regionals and Rachel’s audition. It brings back memories and if you have seen the sneak peek of the next episode, while singing the song, Rachel imagines Finn, Kurt, Mercedes, Tina and Artie singing backup for her wearing the same clothes they did in the pilot episode, or at least a replica of it because Chris Colfer (Kurt) has grown another ten inches so I’m sure they need to tailor-make the shirt. I can imagine the Gleeks crying during this song. Oh, those were the days, weren’t it?
So that’s it! That’s the songs from the next episode of Glee. Stay tuned on Friday for my episode recap of “Sweet Dreams”!
