Demi Lovato just today released her music video for her hit song “Heart Attack”.

Let me first just say that I love the song. The first time it was on the radio, I knew it’s going to be a hit. So I was excited that there’s finally a music video to accompany the song.

It’s a simple yet understated video. She first came out of black paint (I guess?) and then she starts singing. There’s her looking au naturel, wearing white and then her black painted hands come to view and then there’s her singing, wearing black with a band behind her. Like I said, understated.

The song is about two sides of the same girl – on one hand, being her natural self, on another, trying to impress a guy. There is no story plot, no drama, no acting. Just simply Demi singing the song in front of the camera looking gorgeous with nice graphics and additional things to help with the video. Simple.

You might think that it’s too simple and can get boring. That can be true. Not many musicians nowadays actually do what Adam Lambert did with his video “Whataya Want From Me”, which I personally feel is one of the few music videos out there that tells the story in the song itself.

But with the lyrics to the song, Demi could go two ways here:

1. She’s playing ball, or whatever you people call it, with the dudes all sweaty and then a cute guy comes along and she abandons them to chase after this guy and catch his attention. It could be comical but it would also look like Carly Rae’s “Call Me Maybe”.
2. She’s in da club with her friends, chatting by the bar and laughing and she sees a cute guy on the dance floor. She tries to approach him but somehow he disappears into the crowd. After half of the song is done, she finally goes on stage and sings the song. Cute Guy notices and is impressed and in the end, will fly off into the sun together, happily ever after. But that’s like some of the other music videos out there.

So, she does none of the above options and goes for the simplest way that symbolizes the song.

Sidenote: I am now waiting for make-up artists out there to recreate Demi’s au naturel look in this video and do a tutorial of it. The make-up in this video, for both au naturel and smokey eye, is brilliant! She looks gorgeous.

Anyway, love it or hate it? I don’t necessarily love it. It’s not the best music video out there. But I do really like its simplicity.
