My oh my, there are only three songs for the next episode of Glee called “Shooting Star”. I’m not going to spoil what will happen in that episode though the clue is in the title. Sneaky Glee is sneaky.
I have to admit I can’t be called a Gleek anymore because everytime I watch the show, I wanted to cry and ask the creators what had happened. What happened to the Glee I love in Season 1 and 2?
Anyway, I’m not here to rant about what a hot mess Glee had become but I’m going to review the songs for the next episode as non-judgementally as possible.
“More Than Words” sung by Brittany (Heather Morris) and Sam (Chord Overstreet)
I am pleasantly surprised by how good this sounds. I always thought Heather’s voice is monotonous, which makes her able to sing well for a few songs but sounding not so good in others. This is really good though. Chord’s and Heather’s voices really fit together. But then again, you can’t really mess up “More Than Words”. How could anyone mess up “More Than Words”? Unless you are a really bad singer, that is.
“Your Song” sung by Ryder (Blake Jenner)
I’m going to apologize for my tiny rant but this song has always been Darren’s song to me. Yes, it was Elton John’s but Darren sang a cover of this so good that I am really pissed to know that it went to Blake instead. I have always envisioned Darren singing this as Blaine to Kurt. Can anyone blame me after the writers gave “Come What May” to Darren and Chris? Moulin Rouge is Kurt and Blaine. Kurt and Blaine is Moulin Rouge. Duh! So, now I can’t do anything but to listen to this version. I’m not feeling it much, to be honest. It’s not bad but it’s not that brilliant either. It’s okay. You won’t cry and jump off the cliff over the song.
“Say” sung by New Directions with solos from Brittany (Heather Morris), Blaine (Darren Criss), Kitty (Becca Tobin), Marley (Melissa Benoist), Ryder (Blake Jenner) and Sam (Chord Overstreet)
I’ll be completely honest here. When Darren began the song, I wish he just continue singing the song because, let’s face it, he can sing a phonebook and it will be melodious and probably a chart-topper on Billboard 100. The song really fits his voice and as such, that is why I feel that he sort of leads the song and his voice was louder than the rest even though there were others singing the song. The rest seemed to be just a backing vocal to his lead. I enjoy it. There were probably no song from Darren I don’t enjoy. I thought he would sing a bit here but like I said, you mostly hear his voice more than the rest.
So I guess with just three songs, there will be actual plot to the episode. Stay tuned this Friday for my episode recap of Glee.
