TV Episode Recap: Game of Thrones – Dark Wings, Dark Words

Game of Thrones is probably the only show with opening credits that I will watch for. Hats off to whoever who did the opening credits. The song was great and the graphic changes as the plot goes along depending on what other places are added to the story. If you notice, this season, the graphics for Winterfell is on fire. Brilliant minds!

Anyway, I’m not here to talk about the opening credits of Game of Thrones. I’m here to recap the latest episode of the show.

Last week’s episode set off the pace for the rest of the season. We saw Daenerys trying to form an army, Tyrion had a chat with his dear father on his living conditions after he helped defeat Stannis’ forces last season, Robb Stark put his mother under house arrest while Jon Snow joined the Wildings.

We begin the latest episode with Bran Stark having another dream of the three-eyed raven in which his two brothers, Robb and Jon, were there as well. Oh how I miss the earlier Starks. They were so young and happy! Anyway, Bran wanted to kill the raven but it appears that he couldn’t. Why? A boy, whom you might recognize as the now-older boy from Love Actually, told him he can’t. The raven is Bran himself. Say what? Bran woke up and told Osha that he dreamt once again of the three-eyed raven but she didn’t want to hear any of it. They then packed up once again for the journey to the Wall.

We then moved to Robb Stark being all handsome by the fireplace. Heh! He then received not so good news, which were revealed that Catelyn’s father died, and Bran and Rickon are missing. Oh now then they realized that their two young family members are missing? Seriously? It took them this long? Maybe news travelled very very slowly except if they want to go to war and kill each other.

As Catelyn asked whether Robb has heard from Theon…

We see said person all tied up. Ha! Serve you right you arse! And then a man I do not know came by (this show has so many characters that… who is this guy? An extra? A soldier? Where did you come from? And what are you d…?) and cut off Theon’s fingernail? OW OW! That has got to be painful. I’m looking at my nail right now. I can literally feel the pain.

Finally! Jaime and Brienne scene. I love these two. They play off well with each other. So, we watch them as they bicker with each other while walking to King’s Landing. Hmm… I can’t live in Game of Throne‘s world. You walk all the time! And they kicked off with a really nice sarcasm…

Jaime: So how should we pass the time?

Brienne: By putting one foot in front of the other.

Haha! That was funny. All the way through the forest, Jaime was trying to rile Brienne up. The above quote was not the only time I was cracking up. Jaime was teasing Brienne about Renly. Oh God! And then he mentioned that she’s not Renly’s type because he preferred a curly-haired Loras. Awww… I miss Renly and Loras. May you RIP, lovely Renly. During their journey, they met a farmer. Jaime was egging Brienne to kill him for he might recognize them but she refused. I don’t know, Brienne. He might be right. The background music is ominous.

And then we moved to Joffrey trying some clothes on. Everytime I see his face, I want to throw stones at him. Jack Gleeson is really good at this, damn! He didn’t have to say a word and I already hate him. Cersei asked him what he thought of Margaery but when he kept silent, she said “beautiful and intelligent”. It went on and on about how Cersei said whatever Margaery did must have a reason. You are right about that one. Joffrey stopped the conversation and said something that I wanted to reach into the screen and strangle him for: “That’s what Intelligent women do – what they are told.” That’s it! Give me that boy right now and I’ll show him what intelligent women would do.

Still at King’s Landing, Shae was dressing Sansa up telling her that Littlefinger seem to take an interest in Sansa. Ewww! But we are saved by the bell by the gorgeous Loras. Hey baby! He then invited Sansa for lunch with Margaery and her grandmother. I’m thinking something is up. And no, Sansa, don’t you have a crush on Loras. And then we find out, they wanted to know more about Joffrey. Ah-ha! I see what you did there. Margaery is one clever woman! You go girl! Sansa was hesitant to reveal what she knows of Joffrey and eventually she called him a monster. Just a monster? I’m pretty sure he’s Satan’s heir.

I have this picture of a direwolf above just because I want a direwolf. Can I have a direwolf? Anyway, this is Robb’s direwolf. We see his army march to the funeral of his grandfather. Lord Karstark told Robb that he’s lost the war since he married Talisa, whom we see having trouble with the horse slowly approaching Catelyn. Talisa offered to help with something Catelyn was making but Catelyn refused her help because only a mother could do it. Ouch! Catelyn told the story of Jon Snow. This is one of the best scenes, I feel. It was touching and you can feel her regret through the screen. Double ouch!

And talking about Jon Snow..

Image

We see him marching with the Wildings talking to the leader. And then I was scared shitless when I see couple of white-eyed guys looking at the sky. They are wargs who are able to see through the eyes of animals. Cool! One of the men is named Orell who turned to Jon and said that he saw the Fist of the First Men and dead crows. Oh dear… And that transitions to…

Samwell! Who looked like he’s about to die from marching back to The Wall. Lord Commander then ordered Rast to make sure he reaches The Wall alive.

Image

We go back to Bran and the gang. Osha suspected someone was following them and it was revealed to be the boy in Bran’s dream whose name is Jojen Reed and his sister, Meera. Apparently they’ve been searching for Bran, who was revealed to be a warg. Oh I see how it goes. Jon met a warg. He has a brother for a warg.

We moved to another forest. I swear, this show. I love the transitions. But so many characters! Anyway, finally we see Arya and her two men, Gendry and Hot Pie. Travelling north, they are apparently lost in the forest.

Image

Arya wanted them to go to West of Riverlands where her grandfather is a Lord. Poor Arya, didn’t know her grandfather is dead. They were discovered by Brotherhood without Banners who knew they escaped from Harrenhaal. They then take them to eat. Arya and the guys hesitated but they were kind of forced to. I don’t know where this is going but I smell trouble.

Back to King’s Landing, Shae asked Tyrion for help to protect Sansa. I love their scene. It’s sort of cute. Margaery was called to meet Joffrey who asked about Renly. She then revealed that Renly is gay. But distracted him with his crossbow. With her charms, Joffrey taught her how to use said crossbow. He asked whether she could kill something. She replied back with the question whether she could. Woah… Margaery is becoming the major player in this whole game of thrones. Again, ominous background music.

Image

From there, we see Theon being tortured to tell the truth about why he took Winterfell. This whole scene is painful to watch. First the nail, now the toe? Gee! Then an unknown man revealed that he was sent by Theon’s sister to help him escape. I still don’t know what is happening here!

Back to Bran’s journey to The Wall. Jojen shared his knowledge of what the three-eyed raven is about but it’s still kind of vague. So it could be about the future or the present. Thanks for the help, Jojen. He’s kind of cute though. Anyway, so it seems that Bran will play an important role in the future. Game of Thrones, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the dramatization of a chess game.

We then see another Stark by the name of Arya eating in an inn with the Brotherhood without Banners. I still don’t know who these people are! So, anyway, Thoros, one of the guys, let Arya, Gendry and Hot Pie go but before they get to step out of the inn, the other men brought in… The Hound, who recognized Arya. Uh-oh…

Image

We go back to Jaime once again irritating Brienne. I love Jaime. Well, this Jaime. I don’t really fancy the old one. Being held captive makes him a little bit more lovable. While sitting on the ground, Jaime stole Brienne’s sword and they got into a fight, which Brienne won. But then they were discovered by another group of men I don’t recognize. The farmer that they met earlier, recognized Jaime and led the group of men to them. I knew that Jaime is right. I knew it!

And that, everyone, is the end of the latest episode of Game of Thrones. I love this episode slightly better than the first one. Everything unfolds. What will happen to Arya? What will happen to Jaime? Well, we just need to watch the next episode for it.

Siti is just simply a Singaporean girl who has nothing better to do than watch movies and TV shows, listen to music and read books because, let's face it, what else can she, a non-adventurer girl, do in her spare time in this small island? This blog is for her to post her more "professional" reviews of movies, TV shows, books and music and as such, this blog is not spoiler-free so be warned. She may tend to get a little fangirly but fangirling is part of her life that she would not like to get rid of. When she is not sitting on her bottom doing this, you can find her going to work as a project manager in an online research panel company. However, that is the more boring (if that is even remotely possible) side of her life that she does not want to ever share.
